Hello
Suppose a person living in Kanton Zürich inherited something. This would have to be declared in the tax declaration.
But how to do that if the deceased person lived in Germany? The form/application for Zurich asks for details like the AHV number or Swiss PLZ. Germans obviously don’t have that.
And “Verwandschaftsgrad” — what to enter? 1 or eg. mother/father?
AHV ist kein Pflichtfeld
As far as I remember, this inheritance tax is to be paid&declared in germany, not in switzerland. However you need to declare e.g. the house which you inherited so that you pay the eigenmietwert.
However you can just call the steueramt and ask? it’s a matter of a few minutes and they will give you the 100% correct answer.
Inheritance and gift tax has to be paid at the domicile of the testator/gift giver, not at the domicile of the receiver.

If you file a regular tax return you can list the (potentially tax free) wealth increase in a special field.
The letter you received from the tax office should have the name and phone number of the person responsible for you on it. Just call them on Monday and ask. It’s their job to help.
