    Submission Statement:

An Indian naval fleet has arrived at Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas to conduct a joint exercise with the Iranian Navy in the Persian Gulf. The Indian Navy’s “peace and friendship” fleet, led by Captain Anshul Kishore and comprising three destroyers, has docked in Bandar Abbas.

The First Training Squadron ships, Indian Navy ships INS Tir and Shardul, and Indian Coast Guard ship Veera entered Bandar Abbas port on 30 September for a long-range training deployment.

The Iranian commander emphasized that such reciprocal visits would further strengthen the friendly relations between the navies of the two countries.

    SIGNIFICANCE:

The military exercise, although held regularly, is being held amid worsening situation in West Asia and tensions between Iran & Israel.

It comes a day after PM Modi spoke to PM Netanyahu on the phone where he said “Terrorism has no place in the world” and called for de-escalation and return to peace and stability in the region.
