He just exposed what we’ve known all along: he and the GOP don’t actually care about the working class. It’s just talking points to them. Anyone against overtime pay is a scab and sides with the ultra rich, not with the working class.

  2. Ban-Circumcision-Now on

It’s easy to promise no taxes in overtime pay while also wanting to get rid of overtime

Everyone can work 80 hour weeks with no overtime pay!

  3. Sunshinehappyfeet on

“I know a lot about overtime,” the Republican candidate boasted.

“I hated to give overtime. I hated it. I’d get other people, I shouldn’t say this, but I’d get other people in. I wouldn’t pay.”

Just how many of Trump’s “other people” were undocumented migrants? And knowing Trump, he probably didn’t pay them.

    Vote Blue.

See you don’t have to worry about taxes on overtime pay if you get screwed out of your overtime pay.

  6. Interesting … the amount of overtime he paid out is exactly the amount of overtime he got paid *for*.

    >“I know a lot about overtime,” [the Republican candidate boasted](https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1840476603681272243). “I hated to give overtime. I hated it. I’d get other people, I shouldn’t say this, but I’d get other people in. I wouldn’t pay.”

    We know.

Almost every business in America operates on polices just like this 😒

That, and reducing hours to avoid paying for benefits

    And

    >The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) estimates that approximately **72%** of employers are not in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which regulates overtime pay across the country.

  8. jailfortrump on

This is just another way to allocate even more of the money to the wealthy corporations, only this time in unimaginable amounts. This evil man does not care about average Americans at all.

  9. Does he have a single policy that actually would help anyone other than corporations or the rich? Madness anyone votes for this guy

  10. Za_Lords_Guard on

Project 2025 also proposed changed to OT calculations, including basing it on 2 or 4 weeks total hours, not 1. So they might not tax it, but you won’t be getting as much of it either.

That all starts on page 592 if anyone thinks it’s made up.

  11. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/overtime-pay-trump-slips-accidentally-telling-truth-rcna173223) reduced by 76%. (I’m a bot)

    > Former president and current GOP nominee Donald Trump on Sunday admitted he "Hated" to pay his staff overtime and would instead replace them with other workers to avoid doing so.

    > "Donald Trump is finally owning up to it: He's built an entire career on screwing over workers," Harris-Walz spokesperson Sarafina Chitika said in a written statement.

    > "It's exactly what he did in the White House – trying to rip away tips and overtime pay for millions of workers – and exactly what he plans to do in a second term. Trump is a scab, plain and simple. He is selling snake oil lies in a desperate attempt to trick voters. He can't be trusted – workers know it, and voters know it. They'll elect a champion who has their back by voting for Vice President Harris this November.”

I honestly didn’t know he was capable of telling the truth, even by accident.

  13. Ornery-Ticket834 on

What a shock. Not that he is a cheap bitch, but that he actually told the truth about it.

  14. I see the contradiction with his ‘man of the people’ shtick, but outside that there isn’t anything wrong with avoiding overtime by bringing in another worker. It means the employer has to pay extra for forcing an employee to do more than is expected OR hire more workers to cover the expected workload.

  15. old_and_boring_guy on

He has an absurd history of shafting small businesses and blue collar workers. He’s been doing it for decades.

I never understood how that stuff alone wasn’t enough to sink him.

  16. FarAdministration148 on

He didn’t ’accidentally’ do it. He KNEW what he was about to say shouldn’t be said, and he STILL SAID IT. It’s appalling to witness his complete inability to exercise self-restraint on a daily basis.

    EDIT: corrected a typo

  17. Hattrick42 on

I am not a Trump fan, but how is this considered outrageous? This is pretty common practice at most jobs. Companies don’t like paying more than they have to for labor and hiring more staff is one way to alleviate overtime. That’s part of the reason overtime has those rules so companies won’t burn out employees and will instead hire more people.

  18. ButterscotchBloozDad on

Dude’s “faux populism” has been a sham for the get go.

    THE MAGAS DON’T CARE!

Fear and hate drive their numbers. They hate everything and everyone associated with what they have been told is “leftist” which is a monolith of everything from education to not salting one’s own earth.

The point is that they are gone and getting psyop’d into their next devolution.

  19. J-the-Kidder on

You mean to tell me Trump explains one of his favorite ways of not paying vendors and saving money? Go on Donnie, this wasn’t covered at Trump U.

  20. Canucklehead_Esq on

I shouldn’t have to say this but – why would anyone even consider voting for this monstrosity of a person?

  21. Spider-Nutz on

Everything he says alludes to him destroying America. He wants 20% tarrifs on all imports which effectively means +20% inflation and the death of American exports as countries are free to not buy from us.

Getting rid of overtime pay, means the death of American manufacturing. I work in steel. If you kill overtime, nobody would work. 80% of the guys I work with rely on overtime to have a successful life and its their overtime hours that keep our plant running.

  22. whichwitch9 on

What he’s not fully saying: he wouldn’t pay overtime, but he’d sure as he’ll make his employees work it. Not paying contractors and employees for services and hours is literally an issue with Trump known since the 80s in NY/NJ

He specifically hired immigrant contractors to be able to more easily shaft them by threatening deportation. A group of polish contractors were able to successfully take him to court over these tactics

  23. ManiaGamine on

I don’t think it was accidental at all. I think Trump is like a child trying to feel out just how far he can take things before his own side/people push back against him, I think that’s what all of this has been for the last 8 years. Turns out there are very few things they won’t push back on so he just keeps getting crazier and crazier because he revels in the notion of being able to do horrible things and get away with it. I think that’s a big driving force for him in general. He loves getting away with things and sadly a lot of the types of people who would vote for him also like the idea of getting away with things.

They don’t think “Oh no I won’t do that because it’s bad” it’s “Oh I won’t do that because I can’t get away with it” but with Trump they seem to think maybe they can get away with it, I mean so far many of them are getting away with being horrible people.

  24. KiKiKimbro on

No tax on OT — because he doesn’t like paying OT and will eliminate it so NO companies have to pay it. Can’t tax what won’t exist. Glad he’s starting to slip and say these things out loud.

And their “no tax on tips” is important messaging for them — since they intend to eliminate the increased minimum wage and return to low wages with consumers expected to tip to make up for low wages paid by employers.

So. Vote DJT and go backwards from any progress made to benefit the working 99%, so the 1% get even richer.

Or vote Harris, and declare — WE’RE NOT GOING BACK. 🗳️

  25. richardfitzwell822 on

As others have pointed out —There’s an important lesson here in terms of spin and language in politics. By eliminating overtime pay you definitely eliminate all taxes on overtime pay. And in the Beltline way of operating, you are telling the truth by just omitting the first part.

Most political promises should be written on paper and examined like a puzzle. What are they cropping out this sentence?

  26. Historical-Being-766 on

A MAGA supporter would cut their own foot off if they thought it would cause a minority to walk with a limp. All they care about is hurting others, even if it hurts them too.

  27. This is a commercial that writes itself. This should be run in every swing state on all media.

  28. redrocketredglare on

LMAO… and the dumb sheep is going to still vote for him thinking “he would not do that to me….right… he’s not talking about us? Right?”
