  1. > “The political climate of the time was really weird, with Hillary Clinton running for office in 2016,” Feig said. “There were a lot of dudes looking for a fight. When I was getting piled on, on Twitter, I’d go back and see who they were. So many were Trump supporters. Then Trump came out against us. He was like: ‘They’re remaking Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. You can’t do that. And now they’re making Ghostbusters with only women. What’s going on?’ and got all upset.”

    > “Everybody went fucking cannibal,” Feig continued. “It turned the movie into a political statement, as if to say: ‘If you’re pro-women, you’re going to go see this. If you’re not, then …’ I didn’t think it mattered at all that the main characters were women, but people brought a lot of baggage.”

He’s still whining about people not liking his mediocre ass reboot? Still??

  3. Can we please put this to rest? Everything sucked. The people who criticized this movie sight unseen for having female Ghostbusters sucked. The movie itself also sucked. The new round of reboots also suck (child Ghostbusters? A family of Ghostbusters? GTFO). And by the way, Ghostbusters II (1989) also sucked! There are no winners in the Ghostbusters franchise. There is one pretty good movie and a legacy of trash.

How can nobody get through to him that it was a SHIT movie? He has some hits that everyone loves and some duds. This was a mega dud and had nothing to do with casting. Everyone loves the cast and still does.

I (a dyed-in-the-wool liberal) gave this movie a chance. Twice. It was painfully long and unfunny. There was no script and not enough good riffing to cobble together a feature. It had nothing to do with politics for me. It was just a bad movie.

  6. FairlyInconsistentRa on

It would have been a better movie if he hadn’t have been so on the nose about the criticism. Like he went and filmed extra bits for it after the first trailer dropped.

Like the scene where they discuss the comments on the YouTube video – it was far too on the nose.

    Also it kinda sucked.

Fuck trump but also this reboot was godawful so find another excuse or move on Paul.

  8. God, I remember how ridiculous the commentary surrounding this was. The AVGN really got unfairly dragged.

  9. runslikerickon on

I, as much as anyone, would hate to agree with a Trump supporter, but the movie wasn’t great.

This would have sucked even if it was a reboot with all men, it would have just been another Adam Sandler, Rob Snyder style comedy, yes there were bad actors trying to attack it for stupid culture war reasons, but Paul is one of those bad actors to, just from the other side, all he did was galvanize his critics

Look. I really tried to like this movie. But it was just bad. And boring. I still haven’t caught the new ones, mainly because I love the original cast and I’m upset Egon isn’t in them. I am happy people enjoyed them and that when I do watch them will Enjoy them. But damn is Egon missed.

Fuck Trump, but also I have no issues with a female led movie. This particular movie just sucked, idk what else he wants to hear.

Say what you want about Ghostbusters 2016 but at least it attempted to be a comedy unlike Afterlife and Frozen Kingdom.

  15. It was one of like 3 movies I turned off before the end. Managed to sit through Salo, August Underground, all that… Ghostbusters 2016? Couldn’t handle it.

  16. Tokie-Dokie on

Trump is awful. Ghostbusters reboot was awful. The running bit about wontons was painful.

“Four female Ghostbusters? The feminists are taking over!”

2016 was okay, but not great. Afterlife and Frozen Empire were awesome!

  18. I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but lets be freaking 100% honest here. This movie was trash to begin with.

  19. nycblackout89 on

Now it’s trumps fault the movie was bad and horribly written/acted? I wonder what he blames next? Global warming? Aliens? Actual ghosts?

I just popped in to say i really enjoyed the 2016 film. Breaking news, my kids have also seen all of the GB films now, and this one was their favorite. And also the one that they saw first.

conclusion: nostalgia is the driver of which is your favorite film, and not some arbitrary quality metric.

  21. I mean, Fuck Trump for sure, but the movie was really bad. I’ve saw it in theaters and even tried given it a couple rewatches on tv. It’s a terrible movie and hardly funny.

I despise Donald Trump and thought this remake was a pile of shit. Why can’t Paul Feig just admit that sometimes as a writer/director you just swing and miss?

  23. Sekshual_Tyranosauce on

Simpler explanation: it was an unasked for and unnecessary reboot that wasn’t very good.

  24. Yeah ummm nope. The movie sucked then and it sux now. Humour level is for 10 year old kids. Color scheme and effects were Goosebumps level crap. It just sucked hard, the dialogue crap and McCarthy needs to stop making movies.

I hate Trump and hate this reboot almost as much.

  25. It just wasn’t good. It’s wild that I’ve enjoyed performances from the entire cast, but all together they made this clunker. I think I chuckled once during the whole movie at something Hemsworth did that I can’t remember now. The newer ones are even worse.
