She will always have a place in my heart as Professor McGonagall, a great loss indeed.

  2. Oh that’s so sad, one of those people that in my head was in their 60s-70s for the past 30 years. At least she has lived a long life.

I’m genuinely very sad about this, she was obviously an amazing actress but also seemed like a really genuinely lovely, warm and funny woman. Rest in peace, Dame Maggie.

Such a legendary actor, she just oozes charisma, class, and sass. Rest in peace and power, Dame Maggie Smith.

  5. Can’t say I’m still a huge fan of the Potter franchise but as a child (and adult) I thought she was magical in her role as Mcgonagall.

I typically don’t get bothered by celebrity deaths bc I’ve never met them & don’t know anything about them personally but this news just had me do a -GASP- followed by “oh nooo”. ☹️

Rest in peace, have loved her work since I first saw the prime of miss Jean brodie as a child. Magnificent actor.

  9. What an amazing life and career this woman had. She will be missed so dearly and by so many 💔

She lived a full life and brought joy to so many! I grew up with her in Hook and enjoyed her in adulthood in Downton Abbey. I can’t wait to share her movies and shows with my daughter.

  11. Goddamit this one hurts. Ian Mckellen better not go anywhere any time soon.

Where do vanished objects go?” “Into nonbeing, which is to say, everything,” replied Professor McGonagall. “Nicely phrased,” replied the eagle door knocker, and the door swung open…

    Rest in peace, Dame Maggie.

    RIP Maggie Smith ♥️

  14. Copied from another post on this topic that I replied to, so my apologies.

Rest in peace, Dame! Such an iconic treasure to have lost. From Old Wendy in Hook, to Prefessor Minerva McGonagall, she’s been a part of my choldhood memories for decades. I thank you for all that you’ve accomplished and all that you’ve given us. Rest well, Dame!

  16. i seen a comment about a hour ago of someone saying they hope her death was a long time away, within that hour her death was released:(

  17. Well, there goes my Friday. RIP you sweet sweet angel. You were too good for us and this world. 😢

I am old. I remember her from “The Pride of Miss Jean Brodie” back in the 60s. She was fabulous as the school teacher in a private girls school. And of course, many of her films since those days have been great. Loved her in the Best Exotic Marigold…

RIP, Ms. Smith. You left us with some great performances.

She’s back in Neverland and sure she’s flying around right now. Always loved seeing her in a movie.

A year to the day Michael Gambon died at that.

    RIP Maggie!

Oh no. She was one of those people you can’t imagine ever dying because they’ve always been there so them not being there doesn’t even feel like an option.

  22. Oh fuck… I know she was old and all that but she looked really healthy and amazing for her age. It’s such a shame… Haven’t felt this sad for a celebrity’s death since Betty White…

Oh man. This is up there with Robin Williams. This one hurts.
Rest in peace, Maggie. Thank you for everything you did for the world.

Fuck dude. Wendy, McGonagall, all of her Shakespeare roles. You were incredible Maggie and will be sorely missed.

  25. So genuinally sad. Mother Superior in the Sister Acts, McGonnogal in Harry Potter and the Dowagess Duchess in Downton Abbey are three of my faves.

    What a legend.

Somehow she seemed like one of those ladies who would just live forever, somehow.

I’ve been wanting to watch The Secret Garden all week and I guess now is as good of a time as any.

First saw her in Sister Act and she was amazing. She did a wonderful job on every movie she was in
