> the Greens, who were strong advocates of Germany’s exit from nuclear power
[Data from the European Union](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions_per_capita) is that as of 2022 Germany’s co2 emissions were some of the highest in Europe at 8.0 metric tons per person versus France at 4.7, the UK 4.8, or Spain 5.1. Climate change is urgent, just not urgent enough to find other solutions before shutting off your nuclear plants. Not like buying natural gas from Russia for decades had any negative consequences.

What I still find difficult to understand, is how the Greens can lose the vote of younger generations (especially in Eastern Germany), who then vote AfD, which are two entirely different propositions.
Apart from that, being a progressive party in a country that hasn’t moved or didn’t want to move for the past decade or so, is a very difficult position to be in imo.
When I still lived in Germany a decade ago the joke was that the greens are christian democrats that have become vegetarian.
One of the biggest problems the Greens face is the insane hate campaign by the right-wing/Conservative media. Axel Springer pumps out hit pieces on Green politicians on a daily basis, and the CSU has become insanely hateful in their retoric towards this party (which their sister party has coalitions with in like 4 states)
It does not help that most of their key initiatives are directly harming the environment. Their anti-nuclear and anti-GMO campaigns caused a lot of harm everywhere.
I hope a new green party emerges with some charismatic leaders and just better policies on a bunch of topics, we are in desperate need for a new party to vote for, when I look at my choices I just wanna cry by now.
Either you go old christian people, fucking right wing nutjobs, whatever the fuck FDP is now, Greens that somehow manage to get a worse image than even some of the right wing parties and a new emerging left thats too busy gobbling down Putins dick to probably be productive.
Why cant we at least have one decent option, time for a new party
Okay then, it was always allowed
So…… now ….. can we have nuclear in Germany?
Maybe pro-war environmentalism is not a very popular ideology.
