Those two apps are vastly different in function.. kakaotalk is like WhatsApp
Edit: google told me WhatsApp isn’t a thing in the US.. I mean that it’s just an app for texting

They’re not abandoning anything. They use both. Instagram with close friends but Kakao with everyone else.
Of course there may come a time when another messenger replaces Kakao but it will never be Instagram in the current form because nobody wants to share their IG with their bosses or teachers.

Okay so the story is actually about how those people spend less time on KT than IG, that’s about it. It’s not like they are substituting the other one, they’re just spending more time on IG. That’s normal. No one’s spending 5 hours looking at chat and it’s easy to endless scroll on IG
