It’s not all black and white. The world is a complicated place, Macklemore – but, of course, from your shroud of fame and wealth you are the guiding light and beacon of morality we should follow. Y’all act like “going against the establishment” is new. He’s catering to his fan base like any entertainer does. Why do you think all the country singers came out supporting trump?

He’s not some pioneer of some famed cause. The war in Gaza has been going on since before he was born, and now that it’s in the spotlight he sees a chance to gain relevancy(?) or a moral high ground (?) because he’s always preached a message in his music. It’s a lot easier to say “stop the war” and “fuck America” than it is to understand geopolitical complexity and the many, many moving arms that are contributing to conflicts not only in Gaza, but across the world.

Maybe he should shout “fuck Russia” next. Their soldiers are committing rape in Ukraine. Maybe he should say “fuck china” as their coast guard actively bullies and rams into other nations vessels and challenges their territorial integrity.

He’s appealing to his fan base in the most predictable, “punk-rock fuck America rockstar” attitude that has traditionally worked for many entertainers and artists in the past. It’s literally everywhere on social media right now -tiktok and instagram alike- just check out a few of the comments and you’ll see some copy pasted hate check on America regardless of relevancy.

It’s popular, easy, and quite rewarding to hate on the USA. But without the USA Macklemore would have likely been a whole different person when “in the third grade he thought that he was gay” would have likely gone down a lot differently for him in virtually any other country.
