> “I don’t think it’s potential anymore,” Stonestreet said of the scrapped project. “They had their chance. [Series co-creator] Chris Lloyd and a couple of the writers wrote a really great script that spun Jesse and I off in our life in Missouri, and they said, ‘No.’ They just said, ‘We don’t want to do it.’”
> Stonestreet added that this decision ultimately led to “hurt” feelings for Ferguson, Lloyd, and himself.
> “I love my character. I love the show. I love Jesse. We had a great working relationship, we had amazing chemistry,” he continued. “I think Jesse and I maybe felt like they thought of us as the old guys, or something like that, that didn’t seem worthy of keeping those characters going. It felt a little hurtful. But people make business decisions.”
> “I think it would have been a slam dunk,” he said. “I don’t think it would have not been successful. Because you had one of the creators — who had really taken such great care of making sure that show was great for so long — willing to do it.”
Those 2 were easily the worst and most predictable characters on that show. I wonder if Cam is going to over react to whatever the scenario of the week is. Will Mitch talk it out with him? Or will he put on some hair brained facade to ease Cams over reaction?
The spin off would have been worse than Joey
It sounds horrible, like the failed episode of The Office “The Farm” that was meant to spin off Dwight. Talented creators doesn’t mean every idea they have will be good.
Modern Family had 11 major characters, and almost all of them had some kind of small storyline in every episode. That means you got each of them in very small doses. I enjoyed Mitch and Cam, but I wouldn’t want an entire episode of them, especially with a bunch of new Missouri characters added on.
Is it really a spin off when they are already main characters? In a show that kind of overstayed its welcome? The show worked because of the doses we got everyone in
The idea of taking a lot of people’s two least favorite characters from the ensemble, putting them in the worst wrap up from the finale (a lot of people were not happy about them moving to Missouri at the end of the show), taking side characters the audience didn’t like (Cams family) and making them part of the new ensemble, doesn’t seem like a good idea. I just don’t see that working out. Not surprised ABC didn’t move forward with it.
My guess is that financials of it didn’t make sense. By the end, they had Cam, Mitchell, Lily, and a baby. They could recast the baby, but not the main three, and the adults were making $500K per episode by the end, Lily was probably making something like $125K, so already that’s over a million per episode on a show that will probably bomb without Julie Bowen or Ty Burrell.
They need a spin off where Phil gets rich and gets a boat. Then a zombie apocalypse happens and he ends up in a mall. A bit of a sequel/prequel.
If there’s a spinoff, they’d better spin off Pepper
Uh oh, a tv personality taking it personally that their idea was shot down.
How about some originality?
I loved them but their chemistry wasn’t that great. For what they paid them, maybe it wasn’t worth it.
Ah, spinoff. Is there any word more thrilling to the human soul?
Yeah, it would of been super successful like all the other spin offs! Remember Joey?!
I love Mitch and Cam but I don’t know that a spin off of just them would have worked
My least favorite is Cam, this show would be my personal hell lmao he is only bearable because of Mitchell
Modern Family didn’t need a spin off.
