  1. I thought we agreed to put all of our spies in one cafe in Morocco in order to increase efficiency and keep costs down.

  2. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.nbcnews.com/investigations/cold-war-russia-uses-mexico-hub-spying-us-rcna171819) reduced by 91%. (I’m a bot)

    > Russian intelligence services are building up their presence in Mexico for spy operations targeting the United States, a return to Cold War tactics by an increasingly aggressive regime, according to U.S. officials and former intelligence officers.

    > Since VanHerck's comments, which came shortly after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has continued to expand its footprint at the embassy in Mexico City, securing accreditation from the Mexican authorities.

    > In April, the Russian ambassador to Mexico posted a false report by Russian state media claiming that the U.S. was recruiting members of drug cartels from Mexico and Colombia to send them to fight in Ukraine.

Funny seeing Russia’s tactics not changing since the Soviet Union.

Why bother, Orange Jesus will tell them whatever they want to know. Russia just needs to get him reelected. Solves Ukraine for them too.

We have a law, NAFTA, mandating completely free movement of goods, labor and capital across the Border but not law enforcement. Of course they’re going to use Mexico, American police can’t reach them there and never will because the point of NAFTA is to get around American law. Though, the US is not the goal here. Expatriate Russians within Mexico are the target. The Russian government intends to bully, police and exploit them as remittances grow as a source of Russian tax revenue.

It’s a good thing our border security is so strong, right guys?

Always thought it’s so weird all these Russians bought/rented condos in my area of Polanco

This situation with Russia using Mexico as a hub for spying on the U.S. definitely echoes Cold War tactics.

  9. Ah so the media finally starts now to hit Mexico with fake news because they don’t support sanctions against Russia?

How dare you MX to follow your constitution!
    Release the russiagate3.0

Don’t they have a high tech surveillance sites on one of those islands in Cuba?

Idk why you’d need to spy. We announce all our problems and security issues in the news.

  13. I was staying a fairly shitty hotel in Mexico City. I could hear the guy next to my room speaking in Russian, so I busted out Google Translate.

I only got bits and pieces, but went something like “I’ve gotten rid of all my credit cards, my, ID, everything. Trash in different places. I have a new ID, it came through. Let them know I’ll be gone a long time and they can’t find where I am.”

Something about crossing the border. Something about calling someone in X days.

It could have been anything, but he was using a fake ID and concerned about being tracked. I feel it was unlikely he was an operative, being sloppy enough to be overheard.

Back to the Cold War is right: the McCarthyism from the MSM in recent years has been off the charts, and any hint of socialist/progressive movement at home and abroad has thus been undercut by apparent “Russian interference.” It’s boogeyman bullshit.
