Ich frage mich, was Sie dazu denken.

  1. Still happens in todays China. I do believe it’s totally wrong with the fact they put Uygurs in prison or concentration camp alike structures.

What is the solution then? Nobody seems to want to put forward any ideas or thoughts about it.

One thing would be to prevent public showing or wearing of religious signs or objects, prohibit creation, sales or sharing of religious books and anything related on any media, stop financing it entirely and… Prohibit relgious organisations and the creation of any legal entities. Prohibit religious gatherings and the purchase or rent by anyone with the intent/purpose of religion.

Believing in an imaginary god should be seen as a mental disease…
It would relieve me to know that the world is free of such maniacs.

Who? Why? What’s the thought process of these people? Don’t they realize how bad that reflects on the average guy from their group? As if the public oppinion wasn’t bad enough already in the past few years, they are now just making it worse.

  3. schussfreude on

    1. Its an air pistol

    2. No way you dont pay attention at what you shoot

    3. She aimed at the halo, Marys face and the bird

    4. While the halo provides some sort of round target to aim at, Marys face and the bird do not

    5. IF you want to shoot at stuff like that, at least dont promote it on social media

    6. The excuse was laughable, own up to your brain misfires

    7. Shes Operation Libero, who violently oppose guns and were the main driving factor in favor of taking over EU regulations regarding gun laws in 2019, while having absolutely zero knowledge of existing EU and Swiss gun laws and guns as such

Conclusion: Dumb thing done by someone who should know better (as a shooter and as a politician) and absolutely ironic that its done by a gun grabber.

  4. You can (almost) do whatever you want, but as soon as you publicize it, the public eye will form an opinion if it is legitimate or not. As a politician this was unwise and indelicate, to describe it nicely.

  5. Sevatar666 on

I have no problem with it, it’s only a picture. During the reformation there were Christian’s destroying images of Christ and the Virgin Mary. I equally am not bothered if someone wants to draw the prophet Mohammed. Religious people should grow up and stop trying to enforce their delusions on others.

  6. chemape876 on

Respect for the religious beliefs of others is courtesy, not law. You can’t force your religious superstition on me, and will burn a bible/quran/torah or whatever else to make that point.

Anything other than that will lead to a society where a religious majority can force others to adhere to their stupid beliefs.

  7. Personally, I think this whole thing is rather sad and really questions here qualifications and her “mindset” for being a generally accepted politician with a broader support. She actually has a background where she has to some extent experienced what violence means and how conflicts between groups of people with different religions can escalate. I have a background from the Balkans as well, so I know it a bit as well.

The questions that come to my mind are:

    – Was she really so ignorant to not understand what kind of message and symbol this would bring posting it on social media? I, as a non-politician, would never post anything on social media touching any religion in a negative way out of respect for my followers/friends with different religions.

    – Is that something she does regularly and it just so happened to be public now because she posted it? Does she also “shoot” on other subjects? Pictures of people?

    – Why is she actually shooting? I don’t know many people outside of the military duty, who go shooting regularly. And those people are very very conscious about it and when you hear them talk about it you feel they take that seriously and make no jokes at all. None of them have every posted anything on social media related to shooting or weapons.

    – How is her relation to weapons? Who is she shooting with and why? What is her access to weapons? Just to remember: In Switzerland buying a weapon is still forbidden for people from certain countries. Bosnia and Hercegovina being one of them. Yes I know, she has the Swiss citizenship. But I’m actually not sure if that is enough to supersede that law if you have a different heritage.

All in all: a pretty bad if not devastating revelation.

  8. Don’t really care about this, just confirms to me that she is good at provoking and looking for publicity (as she has done in the past). If she wants to move up the political food chain, she has to show considerably better judgement than this.

I don’t really know of anything she has done as a politician (to be honest, that is probably because she is “only” in the Stadtrat in Zurich). Otherwise she is very vocal about boosting/continuing EU/Switzerland relations/bilaterals , which I personally don’t quite agree on.

  9. People’s right to have beliefs should be respected. Not the beliefs themselves. If your beliefs suck, are stupid or harmful, be grateful people tell you.

  10. bobafettbounthunting on

I posted the same question yesterday and deleted it after it was being filled by BS. Good luck.

I believe that she wanted / wants to make a statement along the lines “somehow everyone cares when i shoot at a picture of a maybe made up mother and child, but noone cares about children in gaza / refugees.” Which is somewhat fair but also oversimplified.

Also looking at her shot grouping, i want to say that cluster ammunition is prohibited.

  11. Free-Air2517 on

Anyone who shoots at a picture of a woman with a child is not quite normal!

  12. everything for attention, right? And the national “outburst” is proven her right.

There are some things you can do that guarantees public response. Not always “all marketing is good marketing”, it can indeed backfire. But more often than not it pushes a person into pubic spotlight. It works, I never heard of this person before and now she is all over the place.

Not sure what her intention is, but the rage from believers is exactly as expected, but as usual only a oneway as the public is not allowed to rage at believers for imposing their restrictions unto others.

  13. TheShroomsAreCalling on

    > I personally think anyones religious beliefs should be respected

what if my religious belief is to shoot images of Mary and Jesus?

  14. Inexpressible on

Just a **picture?** Then i don’t care if its Mary, Jesus, Mohammed, Ganesha, Vishnu, Putin, Trump, your Mother-in-Law, Marx, Netanjahu or anything you can imagine, take my photo if you like…
Or go wild: rent a .50 BMG Anti-Material Rifle and shoot a fridge, a toaster, your old iPhones or whatever you fit into your shooting range. Do whatever you want as long nobody gets hurt.

Just do it in private so you can be sure no feelings get hurt. Don’t post edgy stuff on social media. She’s no boomer and should know how this works – way to go to fuck your career.

  15. GildedfryingPan on

It could’ve been Buddha, Mohammed, Nikka, Xenu or whatever else figures there are. I don’t care.

Now, was it a smart move to post it? No.

  16. derFensterputzer on

Eh I don’t care, it’s tasteless at best.

I will absolutely respect anyones beliefs (as long as you don’t push it onto someone else and you don’t hurt anyone by practicing them), but if she wants to show her aversion like this she’s free to do so.

  17. Peace_and_Joy on

Great, now we’ll have someone shoot a picture of Muhammed and then we’re going to have outsides a nice clash.

Kick this idiot out of politics, we don’t need this kind of behavior polarising people. It is unnecessary, completely out of keeping with the country she calls home and will lead to a normalisation of this kind of thing.

    She should be expelled today.

  18. If she is really that dumb, then she is not fit to be a politician.
If she did that on purpose, then she is not fit to be a politician.
Having such dumbasses in their lines discredits Operation Libero

  19. She tried to be edgy and succeeded tremendously. She just forgot she’s 20 years too old to do edgy shit like this and she’s an elected politician..

  20. bobbybouchier on

I always find it interesting when countries elect leaders that show obvious antipathy toward the majority population.

Theoretically, people should be able to do what they want, even if it’s something deliberately offensive like this woman did. Hopefully the public will see her blatant contempt for a large portion of the population and reject her from any political position going forward.

However, I’m aware Switzerland, like many European countries, has Hate Speech laws. For some reason, I doubt hate speech laws are really enforced equally.

Her apology is also just straight gaslighting.

  21. Don’t care about religion in any way but this was probably the dumbest move possible. Might just be career suicide.

  22. Gourmet-Guy on

It’s simple, she just killed her political carrer, that’s all. Publishing the target practise by shooting on a Jesus iconograph on social media was the dumbest mistake ever. A lot of people have hurt feelings as one can see by the reactions.

Now, the online pitchfork mob will move on to chase the next pig through the village in a few days, but anytime her name pops up in a political discussion it will be reduced to this.

  23. I’m not religious at all.

Shooting at a picture of a woman and her baby and then posting about it is pretty dumb.

  24. Chefseiler on

I‘m surprised everyone is talking about her shooting at Mary and Jesus, am I the only one who finds it worrying to use human faces as targets, regardless of who it is?

  25. DoffyWillRule on

Freedom of speech means attacking Christianity whenever you can because you know there is 0 repercussion.

And spare me with your imaginary Christians supremacist.

  26. First time I heard of her was when Twitter erupted with anti Muslim sentiment over this stunt. And honestly I think it was deliberate to ensure she gets the radicalized votes. She’s pulling a page straight out of right wing American rage-bait politics and unfortunately enough people (eligible to vote for her in switzerland) will vote for her.

And now if enough people call for her resignation she’ll go on the “anti-cancel bandwagon” but if nothing happens it empowers the next one which will spray paint a church.

  27. Remarkable-Name-5756 on

As long as religious people don’t mess with my beloved Secularism and don’t want to annex the spiritual world, I respect their beliefs. Otherwise, fuck off and go to hell!

  28. Stock-Variation-2237 on

I did not know this person. Thus I read her wikipedia page.

I cannot understand why she did that. Really. Actually I would be aligned on most of her political positions. But why did she do that ???

Forget for a second the religious aspect of it. You are shooting at a picture of a mother and a baby !! what’s wrong with you ??

And we can’t really forget the religious aspect, can we ? this will open the door to a flood of stupidity.

    Sad. Very sad.

  29. tried to be edgy but couldn’t stand the heat and backed down. No matter your stance, she proven herself as a coward. Best part is that in her apology she said she wasn’t aware that mary is also highly regarded in islam and it wasn’t her intention to hurt religious feelings. Now that it’s about islam she suddenly respects peoples religion. This is a glaring hypocrisy i’ll never understand. As if not both religion did alot of harmful things. islam is just an offshoot of chritianity anway, the sameway as christianity is one of judaism. They aren’t called abrahamic religions for nothing. But it’s not like she knows anything about religion, she just knows christianity is free for all while islam is a no-go. It’s never really about principle with these people, they just have a disdain for the majority. And they will attack anything they associate with it and won’t care about the rest even if it’s equally bad or worse. Shows their true mindset.

  30. Antique-Proof-5772 on

The most interesting thing about this is how the president of her own party clearly pulls the rug out from her excuse, calling it a deliberate provocation (and thereby not a careless mistake as she claims). She seems to have few allies in her own party.

  31. Fabian_B_CH on

Her excuse (“I didn’t have anything else to shoot at and I didn’t realize the significance”) is a very obvious lie. That said, I don’t think she had any other intent than simply provocation for provocation’s sake.

  32. UltraMario93 on

I’ve never heard of her, but I bet she’s an edge lord IRL, for sure.

Just imagine she would have done this with an image of Muhammad. Or with an LGBTQ+ flag or something.

As soon as you show disrespect against something people believe in, especially in such an aggressive, hateful manner, it is usually over with your career.

  33. colonel1979 on

I myself being, first Albanian (she is also probably born and raised in CH) and second a Muslim find this to be the dumbest sh*#• I have ever seen. Todays politicians, influencers etc etc have just lost it. These actions just reflect todays Gen Z’s for what they really represent anywhere in the world

  34. Imagine the situation if a christian politician shot at a koran,…

She should be expelled from politics.

  35. Nohillside on

Thanks for this insight into how pressure groups shape public opinion on politicians they don’t like. And as comments here (and elsewhere) show, it works extremely well.

  36. PrinzBirujin on

this is totally wrong! and whatever reason she said she did that i don‘t believe her one bit!

But here‘s the thing! I haven‘t seen people stand up against the Olympics because of their opening ceremony? At least i haven‘t seen it here in Switzerland! You know why? Because Swiss people don‘t care that much but when there is a migrant politician they burn bridges lol! So to me it‘s all hypocrates that are shitstorming right now! So congrats OP!

  37. Thercon_Jair on

Reading the comments here: meanwhile, people cheer the Quran burners in Sweden on.

Christians are so much more enlightened. /s

Seems it’s just hatred after all.

  38. un-glaublich on

Sad and dumb. She knows it will offend a lot of people but she’s expected to find middle-ground with those same people.

It’s dumb and the greens should wash away this stain as soon as possible.
