Unfortunately, oil demand could peak around 2035 so Pakistan may not be able to make the most of it tho it can pay off their IMF loans in the short term

  2. Offshore oil and gas. Pakistan will need foreign drilling companies. Not like Saudi Arabia or Iran, where drilling costs are low.

  3. Remember when big gas and oil tried to sell the liie you’d run out of fossil fuels so they could hike up the prices? That was funny!

Oil and gas still hit peak demand in a few years of most of this will go untapped, but it’s probably at least good internally for Pakistan in the short run. Batteries and solar are already cheaper than most anything besides natural gas and still rapidly dropping in price, soo good luck on capitalizing on that much since it will take decades to develop.

Not saying oil and gas demand will drop off completely, but most of the nations with large oil and gas supplies basically have no other economy beside selling oil and gas. The US is one of the few nations that, with shale oil development, has a lot of gas and oil but it’s economy is not reliant on the exports.

All those other nations are going to be in an endless bidding war to sell reserves they’ve already developed with infrastructure that’s already paid for. It will be a rough market for large scale expansion to new areas, but still certain worth it for Pakistan, just not likely impactful to the global market.

Oh great. More authoritarian policies funded by oil money. Never seen that before.

Conventional or unconventional oil? If it’s the latter, it’s not going to be cheap extracting it. Also, exploration and confirmation require significant investment and Pakistan could see itself adding to its already massive debt to proceed with these. I could see them tapping Chinese service companies like CNOOC or COSL.

Great, oil industry will want to keep the west locked into paying money to yet another backward near medieval state, with Islamic laws.

  13. Just what the world needs; a bunch of crazies, with nukes, money and a hard on for India.

Alternate sub-heading: “Pakistan, already heavily impacted by climate change and expecting escalating damage, to invest in producing more GHGs”

Just what the world needs, more sources of carbon emissions

  16. There’s a lot of its and maybes in the article. With about 90% of the profits guatlrenteed to go on corruption. Plus the almost certainty of a full military coup. So that the Generals and ISI can max out their return.
