  1. Not to mention strong political and economic ties with Russia. Mongolia relies heavily on Russia for energy, trade, and transportation routes, making it hesitant to jeopardize this relationship by arresting Putin, especially given Russia’s influence in the region. Additionally, Mongolia tends to follow a neutral foreign policy, balancing its relationships with both Russia and China.

International rules are a stick to beat the West with when they don’t follow them and for everyone else to ignore without consequence.

    > That's the message from Mongolia's government after it failed on Monday to execute an international arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin as he landed in the country for an official visit.

    > Mongolia is a member of the ICC, which in March of last year issued an international arrest warrant for Putin over war crimes related to the deportation and transfer of children from occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia.

    > Heorhii Tykhii, spokesperson for the Ukrainian foreign ministry, called Mongolia's failure to arrest Putin "a heavy blow to ICC and the international criminal justice system.”

  4. Plot twist: Mongolia replaces Putin with the double. The Mongol Empire 2.0 it is.

  5. If Putin visited the US, unlikely of course, I’m sure he would not be arrested. Let’s invite him and see!

I really dont blame them tbh. Mongolia is sandwiched between russia AND china with no possible ally in sight and a mere 3,4 Million population. I wouldn’t have arrested putin in that scenario either.

What Putin wanted to show: The West is weak.

What Putin showed instead: Mongolia is weak.

Just another reminder that the ICC is completely useless and unnecessary. It’s a drama troupe acting as if it means something.

“The world”, meaning the West, was expecting Mongolia to commit an act of war against a nuclear power, who is tacitly allied with another nuclear power, Also, both of those countries surround them.

you’d get more milage Nagging Hungary.

Unfortunately most of the world doesn’t actually give a damn about Fascist Russia, because they’re too concerned with screaming “America Bad”,

Anybody with a brain can see how arresting Putin is not in the best interests of Mongolia.

Did anybody seriously expect Mongolia to arrest Putin?

That’s super delusional. Might as well expect them to just invade and take over Russia and China again…

  13. How to world is still functioning with these actions is a mystery to me….

People keep saying they are sandwiched between Russia and China and don’t have a good position… Well, they could have not invited him or let him come to the country… What is Russia going to do to them, threaten them? Bad move Mongolia….

There are three countries in the East Asia who signed the Rome Statute. South Korea, Japan and Mongolia. Two and only countries that borders Mongolia (Russia and China) are non-signatories. You can tell as much as you want about how Mongolia is a poor country that had no choice but invite Putin, but they shoudn’t sign the treaty in the first place.

Mongolia has only two neighbor, China and Russia. I’d be very surprise if they decided to arrest Putin.

Just, how would they travel him to the International court, by flying over Russia?

They’re literally in between two of the most powerful countries which are allies. They definitely don’t want to upset them.

  22. CynicSackHair on

I wonder what would have happened if they arrested Putin. Would the West collectively and actively have helped Mongolia in case of an attack by either Russia or China?

  23. ThePantsMcFist on

No one thought they were going to, and Mongolia actually has to live next to him so, not mad.

  24. Landlocked small country in central Asia refuses to commit effective suicide over the war in Ukraine … In other news water found to make things wet.
