Was ist mit dem RE von Berlin nach Hamburg passiert? Ich erinnere mich, dass der schnellste Zug letztes Jahr 4 Stunden dauerte und nur einmal umsteigen musste. Haben sie eine RE-Linie stillgelegt?

  1. I just know that they are maintaining the fast track of the ICE from Berlin to Hamburg for a couple of months and that’s why even the fast trains need more time.

So I guess they scratched the RB entirely.

The ice has also moved to 3 hrs from 1hr50 minutes, ongoing construction

  3. There was no direct Berlin – Hamburg RE (pre pandemic there was an interregio between Hamburg and Berlin)

The RE1 Rostock – Hamburg is currently broken between Hagenow-Land and Hamburg Bergedorf (which means Rail Replacement Busses between Hamburg Bergedorf and Hagenow Station).

This is till end of September and due to happen for another reason next year again…

  4. The big news this year is that a full-scale general overhaul of the long-distance rail network has just started, so from now until about 2030 you can expect lines to close down for months at a time, resulting in detours and delays across the board.

This is also going to affect the main Berlin-Hamburg line. The current construction work was actually planned before the main event: from now until December there is a lot of maintenance work being done, mostly replacing about 70 or 80 km of track and 100 sets of points (switches, if you’re American). The big overhaul is due to start in August next year and continue until April 2026.

They did consider delaying the first phase until the general overhaul itself and only have to close the line once, but it was decided that the work was so badly needed it couldn’t wait for another year.
