  1. Mongolia’s like, “Arrest Putin? We thought he was just here for the yak milk.”

Looks like Mongolia better start preparing a cozy jail cell for Putin’s visit…or they could just have a horseback ride and share some vodka shots. Up to them.

Putin could somehow materialize at The Hague tomorrow and still nobody would arrest him. I don’t think anybody knows what would happen
If a head of state of a nuclear capable country was arrested by a different nation. And I can’t imagine that there’s any country that wants to be the one to find out.

  4. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/08/30/7472711/) reduced by 67%. (I’m a bot)

    > Ukraine's Foreign Ministry urged Mongolia to "Execute the binding international arrest warrant" and hand Putin over to the International Criminal Court in Hague.

    > Putin's visit to Mongolia on 3 September will become his first visit to a member state of the Rome Statute of the ICC after it issued an arrest warrant against him in March 2023.

Yeah this not going to happen, Mongolia is sandwiched between China and Russia and it wouldn’t take much suicide drone spam dickery on Ulaanbaatar to bring Mongolia to its knees.

Even if they arrest him (which isn’t going to happen) he would just pop up back in Moscow because they sent a body double to Mongolia.

Trusting Mongolia does the right thing – they have a bit of a track record now, striking their own course, since gaining freedom after the collapse of the former Soviet backed dictatorship.

If they bow to *realpolitik*, then equally that increases pressure on ICC member states to bring in ever-increasing penalties that kick-in if a member breaks their obligations.

i think nobody will arrest him even if he steps into white house.

  9. Mr Putin, please this way, anything you say will be used against in court of law.

Anyone thinking about this for more than five seconds knows that Mongolia won’t do this. Mongolia has very little reasons to do it, and many big reasons to not do it.

Putin could suddenly appear in Brussels right now, and I still doubt he would be arrested.

Could they let a different country have a “special military operation” and like rainbow 6 him and arrest him?

    Edit.

Just to clarify, couldnt Mongolia let a special collation “dark” task force operate in their borders and just tell them they didn’t know? With Putin out of the way his predecessor probably wouldn’t retaliate because why would you fight to put him back in power if you are the one with power now?

  12. ToughSpitfire on

Would be nice, but Mongolia caught between a rabid bear and a hungry dragon. Either they get invaded with no way for international support, or they’d be unable to fly him out to face trial.

Plot twist, it’s Putins exit strategy. Maybe he just wants to retire in peace without falling through a window

Arrest someone that you have invited to your country and that also has diplomatic immunity. Truly a genius idea

  15. Whatever small economy Mongolia has and any trade with the West will be sanctioned into oblivion if they don’t arrest him. I think like 80% of exports are to China, so I suppose they can afford not to. Banking may be hurt tho. Still, now they are a quaint, bucolic county no one really thinks about. Hopefully they don’t tarnish their innocuous image by aligning with Putin…

Hang him publicly in Kyiv. Right in front of the holodomor museum

I am losing hope, russia is cancer, and it’s nearly not treatable….

  18. Adventurous-Depth984 on

If it’s such an issue, then why go to Mongolia to begin with?

  19. techmonkey920 on

If all the countries agree to help mongolia with aid of some sort in exchange for his arrest. This would cost less than sending bombs and losing more ukraine troops.
