For the crash?
Oh I hope it was just an accident and not negligence or something like that…
Not sure why, but I’m confident he had a good reason.
Not to start a shitstorm, but how does Zelensky have authority to fire the Air Force leader? Couldn’t he (the AF guy) just ignore Zelensky and ‘stay on until the end of hostilities?’
The rumor is the F-16 was downed by their own Patriot Missile because things weren’t correctly set up and the ex-Air Force Chief tried to cover it up.
Didn’t they just sack a popular general not too long ago?
…
Zelensky signaling that in Ukraine’s fight for survival, there’s no room for hesitation or errors at the top.
I looked it up myself. Zelensky’s term ended 20 May 2024. *But* the Ukraine constitution allows for indefinite extension of his term under martial law. Therefore, as commander-in-chief he can sack the military leadership.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/30/world/deadly-russian-strike-kills-child-on-playground-ukrainian-officials-say/index.html) reduced by 89%. (I’m a bot)

> Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired his Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk on Friday, a day after the Air Force announced one of Ukraine's top pilots had died when a US-made F-16 fighter jet crashed.
> Zelensky said the command level of the Air Force needed to "Strengthen," but did not say whether his decision to sack Oleshchuk was related to the F-16 crash on Monday.
> Earlier on Friday, Zelensky cited recent attacks to again press Western countries to step up their military support for Ukraine.

At least zalensky isn’t afraid to fire people
Such a let down to lose a f16 so soon, and especially in this manner.
