      >”Public dissatisfaction with the government’s economic and social management is at an all-time high, with 91% of respondents giving such an answer and 4% viewing it favorably. The depreciation of the Cuban peso and high unemployment, with 12% of respondents jobless and 69% of them unemployed for over a year, further compound the crisis.”

I really wish I could see western media style interviews of that 4% mix for the sake of equal coverage the way we do elsewhere. “It could be worse!” “Honestly only half the population wants to work anyway” “You know there are a lot of people throwing stones but I haven’t heard any better ideas”.

One of the dumbest foreign policy decisions we made was cutting Cuba off.

They were in the process of opening up under Obama. If they saw the benefit of open economic relations and everyday Cubans benefitted from it, there would have been more internal pressure to reform things.

Cuba post-castro legalized private property. They were ready to start calming things down with regards to their strict Communist policies. We fucked it up in the name of domestic political pandering.

    3. My Civ 6 brain says they’re about 8 turns from rebelling and 15 from joining the US

      >More granularly, 86% of Cuban households exist on the margins of survival, with 61% unable to afford basic necessities.

      >The OCDH conducted interviews with over 1,000 adults across 78 municipalities, revealing that 72% of respondents consider the food crisis the most pressing issue. A significant portion of the population, particularly those over 70, struggle to afford or access sufficient food. Moreover, only 15% of Cubans regularly eat three meals a day.

      >The study also points to blackouts, high living costs, low wages, corruption, and deteriorating public health as major concerns.

That’s a brutal and precarious life for so many ordinary people.

Could you imagine 40C (last year) and no air-conditioning? I don’t know what their humidity is like.

Kind of nuts that Obama was on the verge of normalizing the US/Cuba relations as he was leaving.

      Here we are
