Kennen Sie Beispiele für falsche Freundschaften zwischen lettischen und litauischen Wörtern, die genau gleich aussehen? (Keine Unterschiede in der Schreibweise – ich meine, sie werden GENAU gleich geschrieben.)

Like alnis and briedis? They are the same words in both languages, except they mean opposites in both languages. Alnis is moose in Latvian and deer in Lithuanian, and briedis is deer in Latvian, but moose in Lithuanian.

On a slightly similar note though, mynd you, møøse bites Kan be pretti nasti… A møøse once bit my sister.

“Bauda”. LT – “a fine”, LV – “pleasure”. Pronounced slightly differently though.

A classic “Briedis”. LT – “elk”, LV – “deer”

Sure there’s more, but these came to mind immediately

Gauja is a proper name for a river in Latvia in Latvian, but it’s gang in Lithuanian

Vilties – “to be disappointed” in Latvian, “hope” in Lithuanian
