Ich habe das gerade auf Insta gesehen und dachte, es wäre interessant, wie weit Zypern im Vergleich zum Großteil des restlichen Europas offenbar zurückliegt

  1. Now you know why I was surprised that you kind of aort rubbish but no one really does. Even if you wanna bring away glass bottles you dont know where to go… I drove them around in my car and got rid of the in Larnaca (I am from Nicosia).
I am German and it kind of bothers me aktto throw them just away to general waste…

petition to start removing cyprus from european maps. It just makes us look bad 😩

  3. Dear Cypriot, here is a perspective that you haven’t heard before.

Governments and corporations convinced us that recycling is a must for the environment.

What they didn’t mention to you is that the recycled material is getting sold back to the companies. Those companies are profiting on this as they get the cheaper materials to remake the same product.

What are the people that recycling gets back in return? Nothing!

In Germany for example, you get paid around 10 to 20 cents per plastic bottle recycled in some special muchines that can be found anywhere near supermarkets. This a huge incentive for the average people or homeless to just recycle or even pick recycle material from the trash cans and actual recycle.

Here in Cyprus we could at least get less trash tax, but instead of that, they are trying to charge 2 euros per trash bag so you are forced to recycle(what municipality of Aglatzia is doing), not rewarded in anyway.

Greendot is supposed to be a non profit organization but I am curious of what salaries the management is getting paid there. If someone knows that can shed some light here will be great.

This is data from South Cyprus. If they bothered to look at actual Cyprus, i.e. the whole island, I’m sure it would be different, because the North with zero percent would drag the number well below the 20 percent mark.

  5. I guess the rate will bottom rocket tomorrow in carnical from 28 to 10 percent.

People, are you nuts? Cyprus is an isolated island in terms of energy, half divided. How the heck can you expect to teach the same recycling levels of cars with mainland countries? Would A recycling metallurgy be competitive?
    Heck no!
The best we can do is resell the cars to Sri Lanka!

  7. Malta recently introduced a bottle deposit scheme. Not speaking about environmental benefits, but at least the countryside is now much cleaner. Before everyone just threw their plastic bottles in the next bush.
