    Submission statement:

    ### U.S. Electricity Generation Shifts Dramatically Toward Zero-Carbon

In a significant shift, over 95% of the new electric-generating capacity planned in the U.S. for 2024 will be zero-carbon, a stark contrast to the reliance on fossil fuels seen in previous years. This includes a substantial increase in battery storage capacity, from 1% to 23% of the total planned, which complements the 71% of capacity from renewables like solar and wind.

The recent developments in the U.S. represent a critical step towards a fully clean power grid, with nearly no new fossil fuel capacity planned for 2024. This transition is facilitated by advancements in battery technology, which enable more flexible and efficient use of renewable energy, aligning with increased electricity demands from electric vehicles and other technologies.

These changes mark a pivotal move towards decarbonization, setting a precedent for rapid transformation in the global energy sector.

I’m guessing this basically spells the end for fossil fuels for electricity production in the US. Fossil fuel use may go up a few more years as there may still be some natural gas or coal power plants in construction, but once they’re built there’s basically nothing else in the pipeline for further construction, after which we’ll see a decline in fossil fuel use for energy production as older power plants go offline and get replaced by renewables
