*The region’s 12 localities include Birkirkara, Għargħur, Lija, Gżira, Swieqi, Iklin, Msida, Pembroke, St Julian’s, Ta’ Xbiex, Pietà and Sliema. As at November 2021 the region had a resident population of 115,908* ***of which 37.7% were non-Maltese.***

Traffic and parking problems, too much construction, air and noise pollution and lack of green spaces are impacting the well-being of people who live in the east of the island,

But the post is just racist…

“Traffic and parking problems, too much construction, air and noise pollution and lack of green spaces are impacting the well-being of people who live in the east of the island, according to a new regional study.”

    – people have been complaining about this for years. But anyone who criticises it is seen as an enemy of the Government by the “patriots” with room temperature IQ

And before anyone interprets this comment as anti labour whining, people in my parents generation have been saying this for at least 30 years.

Some of the residents concerns (traffic, noise, construction) were not aligned between locals and foreigners. Everyone thinks the rents are too high. Everyone is tired of traffic and constant dirt and dust from the construction.

Those regions definitely have the highest concentrations of foreigners which is why they’re news. It wouldn’t be an article if you picked outlying towns where everyone just gets on with it. Of course they’re going to look at Sliema, Birkirkara (and by extension Bugibba etc).

I’m more comforted by the fact that we all share gripes.
