It depends on the contractual and tax setup of your employer.

I have never have seen this option in a tax declaration. Professional trips : yes. Private no.
But hopefully I will be corrected, as I would love to do that.
I’m not a tax expert, but afaik this is if you still have a real home you actually maintain and pay for regularly. Not just a joyride back home, but part of your regular day to day life in country X, part of it in Germany.
