I think the soldier forgot to read the recently updated 2nd edition of the ‘how to counter a drone’ chapter of the guidebook.

Suicide by drone? Looks like cover was just a few feet away

Or is his hearing gone and was completely unaware?

Edit: this was just posted. Surrendering russian unintentionally helped spot the ukranian dugout location

Someone pointed out that this soldier was unarmed. It would not surprise me if he was sent towards ukranian lines as punishment: either ukranians kill him or he helps identify enemy position like in this other video

  4. They didn’t have to kill him so the rumor of being able to trick the drone that way would spread even more.

Everyone here might think he’s dumb but it’s actually not a bad strategy with nothing else to do. If he runs it’ll catch up, they can chase cars. Letting yourself get insta killed is hardly a bad outcome considering the other brutal deaths here.

  6. He would of been fine if he didn’t move his head ; what a fool lol

It’s not a T-rex bro. Then again maybe he just got tired of being there.

He chose not to run and hide. Valid option, since you are fucked either way when detected by a drone.

Just shows what one to two weeks of superior moscovian training can do for the well paid(in moscovian rubles) moscovian contract soldier. That helmet really looked like Airsoft, although airsoft makes their stuff look really good, for paintball.

I believe they’ve been instructed to freeze if they hear a drone. Lowers the chance of the drone operator spotting them.

  11. It’s like when Andy was driving his Prius really slow since it didn’t make any noise so he could run over Dwight in the Dunder Mifflin parking lot.

Ngl if death is practically unavoidable I would rather die instantly than die slowly bleeding out because I tried to dodge it

  13. First, the video is in slow motion for the very end. It’s not like he stood there for 20 seconds while the drone slowly approached. The drone was going much much faster. He had his narrowest profile turned towards the drone. If the pilot had been off by six inches either way, it slams into the ground a few feet next to him. Not ideal, but better than taking a direct hit.

Second. He has camo on and the resolution on these drone cameras isn’t all that. Especially if it’s near the extent of its range or battery life. Or if there’s any jamming near by. Running isn’t going to help him, except to tire him out and make him a stationary target anyhow. Worse, a stationary target lying on the ground. Running would just make the drone operator’s job easier in the end.

I guarantee you we will never see the video here where the Russian soldier stands still and the drone ends up going too fast to hit a small target. So I have no evidence that freezing has any positive upside. But we have seen it more frequently, which suggests that it is an actual tactic. It wouldn’t get propagated to other troops if it was any worse than running.

I hear some claim anti drone capabilities. Yeah?

Is it to be the last guy standing?
