Is there a stereotype or stigma attached to Loden coats?

uuh its just what what a garb was in earlier times. Usually you will find more moderns cuts, not primarily the one in the link. If you want one like that you will probably have to pay a bit more than usual. But there is no real subculture linked to it, rather just people who fancy that kinda stuff and are maybe a bit more conservative?
Such coats can still be seen today among hunters who prefer traditional clothing to the functional clothing in use today. They are used for hide hunting, e.g. when sitting on a stand in low temperatures in winter and waiting for a fox, for example. The reason for this is that it makes little to no noise when moving, whereas modern materials often ‘rustle’.
There are also models with a different cut, sometimes more reminiscent of a poncho.
These are used more as an overjacket in bad weather.
It is important to know that loden protects very well against rain for a while. But when it gets soaked it is really heavy.
They’ll probably think you look like a hunter. Have never encountered any negativity tho
