FWIW, this is how I lost weight.

I calculated my BMR for a sedentary lifestyle and rounded that to the nearest 100. I ate that amount of calories every day (yes, I weighed portions and counted calories to ensure it). I became active, creating the calorie differential through activity instead of calorie reduction. Every time I lost 10 pounds, I recalculated my BMR, rounded it to the nearest 100, and started eating that amount of calories.

Across 15 years, I lost 270 pounds and reduced my calorie intake from almost 4,000 calories per day to around 2,000 calories in 100 calorie step reductions. I eventually found a calorie in/out balance of around 2300-2500 calories per day to maintain my weight (210) based on what’s become my normal level of activity.

Good luck in the new year!

Edit: Unlike taking a drug like Ozempic, which stops working as soon as you stop taking it, this never stops working. I’ve been maintaining my weight for five years now.
