Egypt FM verschiebt Syrien-Besuch inmitten einer Anti-HTS-Medienkampagne

Egypt is watching with great concern what has been happening in Syria since the fall of Assad. Al-Sisi and the heads of his security apparatus fear that the success of the Islamist revolution there will encourage the Muslim Brotherhood to try to take over the country there as well.

Until Assad was ousted, Egypt supported his presidency. Not out of affection for the regime that received a flurry of curses on Cairo television channels, but because it was an elected regime.

Only when tge rebels stood at the gates of Damascus, and Assad fled the palace, did Egypt change its tone, and al-Sisi declared that “we will judge the new Syria by its actions.”
