This might sound like a stupid question, but I don’t know how this works enough to know the answer to this: so will they be able to deport sex offenders since it was a majority vote for it?

ICYMI: 158 Dems Vote Against Bill to Deport Illegal Immigrants Who Commit Sex Crimes. Whenever you have a case where one political party is doing something indefensible like this on this sub
….. you get flooded with the “both sides” and “it’s not red vs blue!”
lol it’s like clockwork. And the partisans on the red and blue side do it. I just think it’s funny people are so partisan that even when something indefensible comes across, they still can’t call their favorite party out. They won’t openly defend it. They choose to go with the obfuscation defense. Whatabout “both sides”.
Never fails.

I think this vote was in June or July fwiw. Shelia Jackson Lee (dead) and Jamal Bowman (lost election) were both nay’s.

Okay it looks rlly bad but there is a deeper level to voting no. If we were to deport people with a migration background for crimes that a lot of people without that history commit aswell, It would simply be an unfair practice. The eyes of the law should be blind and the punishment for someone with a migration history shouldn’t weigh heavier then the punishment for the same crime would someone else commit it. Simply saying “the Democrats like rapists” is too short sighted.
(Context: I hate american politics and the politicians and i do think everyone is corrupt there but im still gonna defend inaccuracies on both sides)

What else was in the bill?
Do you think that the Patriot Act is something patriots should vote for?

A felony arrest will already get somebody deported….
Please explain why a further elaboration on that process is necessary instead of spamming the same reply please.

IIRC the law was already in place to have them deported for this, and this law was unnecessary and didn’t change much. I could be wrong and don’t care to find sources bc I’m lazy but for this specific case, I don’t think they were changing much
