Most of Taiwan’s Territorial claims are lands that the Qing Dynasty controlled before they fell in 1911 as they see themselves as the only successor to the Qing so they get all the land.

So same shit different color if we switch roles. Same stick fights at tibet mountains with india, tibet itself, assimilation of uyghurs. Possible war over Russia or japan protecting Communist taiwan straight. But as a bonus mongolia as a whole is claimed. And maybe for chinese crisis like Great leap forward. We wouldve had continuation of Warlord era?

This is a rather interesting situation regarding the legitimacy/integrity of both Chinas.

The ROC is not recognized as the legitimate regime of China by those countries so they can’t negotiate the borders with them.

At the same time, they can’t abandon the claims to any territory as that would be seen by the PRC as a move towards independence and away from reunification, which could prompt an escalation from the PRC.

But they also can’t just accept the PRC negotiated borders as that would be recognizing the PRC as the legitimate regime.

So they stick to claiming all of Qing China and keep the *status quo* as it matters little since they can’t even contest any of these borders on the ground.

Mistake in the map: the ROC didn’t take control of Taiwan until after WW2 not 1912.
