$42.38 per month is barely enough for two streaming services, let alone the ad-free options. The paradigm is a bubble. People won’t put up with this crap forever.

It is getting to the point where streaming fees are as expensive as cable.

Everything old is new again – at this rate I’m half expecting to see 2025 see a resurgence in DVD / Blu-ray players along with the complete set for shows. Granted not all of the shows that people may want to watch have official licensed copies on physical media, but a lot of the older shows are shockingly cheap. Once you have the physical media, its not that hard to rip it and use a local NAS and media server to have you own streaming service.

ngl when it was one or two subscription services it was fine, but now I sub to nothing.

I either sail the seas or whenever there is a big catalogue i wanna watch I sub and watch it then. in 2024 I subbed to netflix only once and prime video once.

  5. There’s so much to watch on any one of them that multiple subs are totally redundant. If I really want to watch something that isn’t on Prime I’ll sub for one month.

  6. I use Netflix only and that’s more than enough for me, although there is good stuff on HBO Max lately as well.

  7. The prices all went up and we lost content instead of getting more

So yeah the natural outcome is generally not using them anymore.

  8. Every service has raised prices and added or increased commercials. I’ve cut out two services recently because the increase didn’t justify the selections. Meanwhile, they keep throwing “live” programming at me like I give a shit.

Once I hit 40, as long as I have shows where people fix up old houses, I’m good.

The quality has gone downhill as far as I am concerned. YouTube creators do a better job than a lot of Netflux productions or Disney.

  11. It all started with NBC pulling The Office from Netflix. Now there’s a billion streamers.

Last year I cut out AppleTV and Max. This year I’m finally cutting the cord on my Hulu+Disney+ESPN Live TV bundle, Netflix, and Amazon Prime and possibly just keep Peacock and Crunchyroll. I did the math of how much all the subscriptions were costing us annually and it was about $1,400. Thats not including the Twitch or Patereon subs I just had cycling through monthly. Excited for the spare change to throw at my car payment this year!

The only thing that’s truly worth paying for on a consistent basis as far as I’m concerned is YouTube premium since that’s probably what I watch the most these days.

I went to streaming to avoid cable, but it has become cable. I have multiple streaming services which end up costing damn near the same as cable, and even the paid plans still inundate me with commercials. Wtf is the difference besides the on demand portion, which cable addressed years ago?

    Yes, exhausting.

The NFL has scattered games over various platforms like peas on a childs’ dinner plate.

Higher prices and enshitification will do that. No one wants 10 services. They want 1-2.

Hmm, it’s almost like they’re pushing us to get IPTV services by forcing all of us less tech savvy people to learn about these things. Kind of like the analog descramblers back in the day.

  19. Seriously fuck everything becoming a subscription. 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

I was wondering what the obsession with banning porn was about.

I fear that many Americans have a dopamine addiction and streaming contributed to it. Now we’re finally realizing how unnecessary it is.

  22. Not American, but I now very rarely use any streaming. I’m back to books and it’s been doing wonders to my mental health. Next stop, less Reddit!

  23. Music is the only industry that has gotten streaming right. All of the platforms offer more or less the same catalog and you choose based on price and feautures.

I subscribe to one streaming service, watch for several months or longer, and when i get bored i move to the next one. It keeps content fresh and I’m never paying for more than I need. Who honestly needs more than 1-2 streaming services at any time?
