What’s the Lingua Franca in India? As in what language do people who speak different languages use to communicate?

Konkani speaker from Goa (not very good I’ll admit as a second gen immigrant) and this map is fairly accurate. But it is spoken by small groups across the Coastal West and South of India with only around 2.5-3 million speakers so it’s one of the smallest languages in India by number of speakers.

What is konkani? Shouldn’t it be Portuguese?

Bhojpuri aint hindi, Kumaoni aint hindi. Hindi imperialism doesnt even recognise languages. Not only does the government intentionally want to kill bhojpuri they dont even recognise our language. Banaras used to be bhojpuri majority 150 years ago. Hindi speakers make you feel embarassed for speaking local languages, or treat it as a sign of not being literate. To the point that parents start teaching their kids hindi only.
This artificial standardisation of one language which wasnt spoken anywhere outside one region in north india 300 years ago has takenover entirety of north India and managed to kill all language diversity in north india
The nerve to call bhojpuri a dialect of Hindi is insane , bhojpuri is older than hindi

I speak Garhwali and it’s been made a political dialect of Hindi.
