I sort of had this idea.. similar to classical or stimulating music being played while studying. Have an adult video on by the side of another resource for learning a language and maybe the brain activity will permit better retention.. I guess a Japanese AV would check both boxes

I passed the JLPT in the 90s before the internet. I studied in country. It took me 2 years to speak good.

I do listen to Japanese music and only watch Japanese TV and movies.

After 33 years of studying I have probably forgotten more than I learned.
