>The Treasury minister is the niece of Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister of Bangladesh who ruled the country for 15 years before being toppled in a revolution in August.
>Siddiq is alleged to have been involved in brokering the 2013 deal with Russia and was photographed with Vladimir Putin and her aunt at a signing ceremony. The Treasury minister has previously said she only posed for the Russian president after he asked her aunt: “Is your family here? I’d like a picture.”
>A Cabinet Office spokesperson said: “As previously stated, the minister has denied any involvement.”
Had Sheikh Hasina not been deposed in August, just a month after Starmer and his cabinet were sworn in, this probably would never have become an issue.
But it was questionable judgement to appoint Siddiq to his cabinet in the first place, knowing her connections to a third-world leader with a reputation for corruption and autocracy.
Wish labour would immediately get rid of such front bench mp’s that are sleazy or corrupt.
I don’t blame the right wing media for using that crap that this government is just as bad as the last government, especially if Starmer won’t wield the axe to show that he’s zero tolerant on such matters.
Come on Labour, get rid of her and stop giving the media ammunition.
More schoolboy errors from Labour. It’s almost as if they’ve learned nothing from 14 years of opposition and watching the Tories enrage large parts of the electorate with their cronyism. Labour seem set to self-destruct at this rate and Farage will be ready to benefit.
She has to have the whip withdrawn. This casts massive doubts about Starmers judgement especially after Rachel ‘In charge of the tea funds’ porkies about her economic experience.
The economy, peoples businesses and growth are tanking as a result of these ‘errors of judgement’.
i think its fair to say this lot are as corrupt and incompetent as the last lot, only difference is my taxes are even higher now
