reposting one of my questions from another thread

    >**my thinking is that Syria does this to have its Iranian debt erased**

Assad regime apparently had over 30 billion dollars in debt to Iran

can the new Syrian government declare this debt as void or illegal, or does the debt ultimately remain , and defaulting on it would lower the credit score of the new government ?

if so , can the new Syrian government simply subtract the debt from the reparations that Iran owns it?

if Syria manages to get its Iranian debt cancelled out through arbitration courts, this could prove very useful for the government in the future, should they need new debt

basically ,Syria would be seen as a trustable loaner, that wont just ” forget” about the debt it has even to its former enemies

i find it crazy that people have complete amnesia about what Iran and its sectarian militias did to Syria

**Hezbollah had at some point 40,000 troops on the ground helping Assad defeat the rebels**

**total Iranian+ pro Iranian militias and troop numbers was as high as 80,000 at some point in Syria**

so people are worried that **HTS , which used to be part of Al Qaeda** nearly a decade ago, could turn into a tyrannical Islamist militia, but completely ignore that Hezbollah , a **brutal genocidal Islamist** militia, had nearly free reign in Syria for a decade ?

Syria was already far worse than Lybia or Iraq or Iran from all points of view, whether it comes to Islamist militias running free , decaying economy or human rights abuses

just read what Hezbollah did in its siege of Yarmouk, and the multiple incidents where Hezbollah committed mass rapes in rebel territories to “punish them”

I wonder if Syria might try and get the US/West to give them frozen Iranian assets, since Iran’s a designated state sponsor of terrorism.

Wouldn’t be 300 billion dollars, but every little helps, and Syria needs all the money it can get.

Good luck to them on that. On the flip side if they get their debt erased then you know that’s one less thing to worry about I suppose.

Is there a similar demand in the works towards Russia which also provided quite a bit of aid to Assad?

Iran’s strategy and campaign in the Middle-East against Israel is over. They’ve lost definitively and there’s no coming back. All that’s left to do now is for the final chapter, the regime to be toppled and for the people to get their proper voice and power back.

Now we are starting to see why they are courting the west. They want access to seized and frozen assets
