As a Canadian, I feel more disrespected and alienated by my current government than anything else

We do. Our closest ally is treating us like were not a sovereign nation….trump treats us poorly

  3. Comprehensive-War743 on

Yup, he’s right. We don’t want to be called a state even in jest. We don’t want tariffs either.

  4. I generally do not feel disrespected by those of whom I have no respect for.

They have no respect for themselves so how could we respect them after they (he) is disrespectful to us?

There have been ups and downs in the relationship between Canada and the US at certain points but I can’t think of another President who so brazenly disrespected Canada’s sovereignty like Trump. Even when LBJ lost his shit at Lester B. Pearson for refusing to send soldiers to Vietnam, it wasn’t this bad.

  7. We ARE disrespected.

Feelings have little to do with this anymore. You can see it for yourself.

Well, we do. The incoming US president has been insulting us by calling us the 51st state…completely disregarding the years of friendship and support that has gone both ways.

No shit Sherlock. Don’t let the border hit you in the ass on the way out.

Not as much considering the source. A convicted felon married to a former escort.

This 51st state nonsense is trending in shameless attempt to generate clicks and engagement. Just like most else in media discourse now. No one even seems to realize what trolling is anymore.

Best response would be to start light hearted counter memes. “51st state? Come on Donald….we know you’re just after our poutine and maple syrup.”

America can get fucked. Hope Trump doesnt visit Canada during his presidency, he can fuck right off.

  13. It’s our Prime Minister. He’s the elephant in the room.
Pierre Poilievre and Doug Ford already showing more balls than Trudeau.

Trudeau thinks he can slack our military/NATO commitments and coast on his social spending and good looks. Of course the US has lost respect.

  14. We as Americans appreciate our Canadian brethren. Tragedy what Trudeau has done to Canada. Housing crisis, surplus of immigration, lack of quality control on immigration and the affordability crisis. Hopefully you all get a better government soon.

No he doesn’t. He carries absolutely zero emotion weight or burden over the situation.. The ambassador is not an impartial observer. He was appointed by Biden and dismissed by Trump.

He is playing the game. Trying to take digs at the Trump administration before he leaves and exploiting Canadians hurt feelings to do it.

  16. Intelligent_Hand4583 on

Y’think? Now that we see how the US treats its allies?

  17. Possible_Marsupial43 on

We should’ve leaned into it each time by responding with how many electoral votes would go to the democrats.

Please don’t waste your time being offended though. He may be the president elect, but he’s also a complete moron hated by half his own country.

Tbh if a trump presidency stokes enough Canadian nationalism to push us out of the American sphere of influence that’d be wild

  19. Wow! Rather than acknowledge the elephant in the room, which is the massive lack of diplomacy on the part of his country’s incoming leadership, he points to an imagined Canadian ‘inferiority complex’. Yes, the problem is 100% our perception (/s). Also states that being the 51st state wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Don’t the door hit you on the ass on the way out, asshole.

We helped them get their citizens out of Iran when their embassy was overrun. We stood firm during their hour of need during 911.

And let it be know that after Pearl Harbor, Canada was the first country to declare war on Japan, even before Washington did the same.

To be openly mocked by a president who in most civilized nations who would be barred from positions that involve supervision of children is an absolute insult.

Trump is the filth that usually rots in a prison but wealth has elevated him to a position he does not deserve.

To be fair,  it’s a Canadian tradition to lose our shit any time a foreign country does anything other than blowing sunshine up our ass
