I’m sure China is moving forwards, but in the last 3-4 years the great power parity is mostly helped by the US sprinting backwards.
If we involve ourselves economically in a couple more forever wars with states other than China, we’d basically just take ourselves off the chessboard in 10-20 years, and they wouldn’t even have to worry about a conflict. Not unlike how we took the title of world leader from the UK.
