SS: The Pentagon has confirmed that it had doubled the number of US troops in Syria prior to the fall of the Assad regime. Ostentatiously to fight Islamic State forces in the region.

While it could be coincidental, it is interesting that a surge of US troops involved in combat operations occurred before the swift toppling of Assad and the United State’s potential involvement behind the scenes.
