Carney saw the shitstorm that was yesterday and said “Actually, no thanks”

There were rumours that he was going to run in Ottawa South which right now is looking like very much one of the seats the LPC are going to lose

He’d be smart not to get involved right now if he has ambitions. He’d certainly be a smart leader if he chooses to offer.

    >It is unclear whether Mr. Carney had accepted the initial offer to join the government. Two sources close to Mr. Carney strongly suggested over the weekend that he was not willing to be part of the government even though he did not immediately close down discussions. The Globe and Mail is not identifying the sources so they would speak freely about Mr. Carney’s deliberations.

I’m inclined to believe this is probably accurate. For someone like Carney the giant red flag would have been the strife between the PMO and Freeland over financial policy, not Freeland resigning/being pushed out. Why would a subject matter expert be willing to work for a guy who evidently won’t take policy advice from the people responsible for that policy?

This just really shows Trudeau is quite a ruthless power hungry guy these days.

Rather then accept he is at fault for the parties misfortunes…he wanted to shift blame on freeland and push her out.

Dislike freeland or not she served at Trudeau side loyally.

Fact after 10 years he just does a zoom call saying “okay you fired and u gonna have to wear my baggage”

Freeland had no option to go nuclear on Trudeau really to save herself

  5. Odd, the article says Trudeau told Freeland on Friday that Carney was replacing her, but two sources close to Carney strongly suggested, over the weekend, he was not willing to join this government…that was before Freeland resigned.

That either suggests the Prime Minister has lost it or the source saying this isn’t accurate.

I couldn’t come up with a good reason for Carney to join a government going down in flames when these rumours resurfaced last week.

There’s some really juicy stuff in that article.

He clearly expected Carney to say yes, and for Freeland to take the demotion while giving the statement.

Article also says that Carney presumably said no sometime Monday morning after the resignation. So Trudeau might have thought Carney and Freeland would both be there which is unrealistic.

And doing this not face to face is also not a great thing for Trudeau.

However there isn’t a solid no on a potential cabinet shuffle Wednesday. Though I highly doubt Trudeau speaks to the media even if there is.

And as many have said, what Trudeau offered her was a demotion. That is a huge factor in Trudeau dealing with Trump when she didn’t have a ministry involved.

How exactly was Carney supposed to become our Finance Minister by Tuesday? Was Trudeau going to appoint him from the Senate or from outside the House? When was the last time any Westminster parliament tried anything that anti-democratic. He’s sure not winning any by-elections as a Liberal.

Seems like even if everything had gone according to plan and Freeland had been willing to play ball these moves still would have read as desperate and reckless.

    “Sources say”.

Sources have been saying a whole lot of things the past couple of days but they haven’t really been shown to be correct. I thought those Sources said Trudeau was going to resign last night and then this morning too.

    Getting clicks though.

Point being it makes zero sense for Carney to come into this government till after the election whenever that is and it never did make sense.

Does the Parliament even use Zoom? At least pick a product that might be within the IT infrastructure for the GC.

  9. My tin foil hat conspiracy theory is that Carney’s intention was to maneuver himself into being Prime Minister House of Cards style. I just can’t fathom why Carney would want to serve as Finance Minister in the final months of the Trudeau government, it’s a demotion compared to his previous jobs. My previous theory was that Carney was being brought in to slash the budget and bring in austerity using his BoE & BoE experience as cover for the Trudeau government, but it seems like it was Freeland pushing for fiscal restraint, not Trudeau.

Carney’s best option is to let someone else with some charisma take over leadership of the LPC, negotiate a new deal with the NDP/Bloc and then for Carney to somehow come in as a ‘Deputy Prime Minister’ so he doesn’t take heat in the next election.

Unfortunately for Mark, there is no way any single part of that realistically happens.

The LPC is now in the rebuild phase. No player with aspirations and talent is going to join a team in rebuild. Players go for the cup.

Now just imagine… This was just a set up. Freeland is next in line and that was the absolute best way to pass the baton and capitalize on the hate for Trudeau. People always root for an underdog… And PP even read her statement in the house… Word for word… That would be masterful…

    I know this isn’t the case… But still …
