>GAC didn’t say whether Israel checked with Canada to ensure that no Canadian personnel were on site when the airstrike hit.
>Canadian diplomats and other personnel, including RCMP officers, have entered Syria on several occasions since the embassy was closed. It’s not clear whether they used the embassy as a base of operations.
Given Israel just killed a Canadian aid worker despite having full knowledge of their trip. Even though their car had a huge aid decal on the top.
I doubt Israel cares. Even it’s ‘allies’ are collateral damage in their genocide.
>The Vienna Convention that protects diplomatic missions only prohibits host countries from engaging in acts of violence against diplomatic missions — Israel’s strike on an embassy in a third country is not a violation of the treaty, although it does violate international conventions.
That’s one hell of a line when discussing intentionally targeting a foreign embassy. I’ve been surprised how little government and media has discussed this attack, considering how radically outside norms it is. We’d be sanctioning almost any other country that conducted a strike like that but this is Israel, so I guess they get impunity.
I doubt I’m alone in thinking you shouldn’t damage Canada or its embassies. Is that a controversial statement? Is it anti-Semitic?
>”We’ve asked for explanations as to why the house was hit,” French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said.
I mean it’s pretty obvious they wanted to kill the military members. Why would they care where they were. Canada won’t even complain about an embassy being damaged. No one else will either.
So far this week, Israel has killed a former Canadian serviceman and bombed our embassy. It’s embarrassing that our government still considers this rogue state to be an ally. They have no respect for us and what our allies have done for them. Cut them off. If this was any other country we would have them sanctioned, but our government is afraid to even mildly criticism them.
Palestinian terrorists are known for disguising as civilians, hiding in ambulances and other such vehicles, and using the humanitarian aid infrastructure in the Gaza Strip to evade death or capture (but post October 7, most likely death). The same is true for Iran and Hezbollah – they use state institutions to shield themselves against the consequences of their actions.
What is not at all surprising is the reaction of Hamas supporters in the west who hold the misguided view that their ideological comrades in Gaza now have the upper hand in this fight. This is part of the playbook – say nothing or the least amount possible the day of and wait for the Israeli response to become outspoken. The events of October 7 stand alone, there is no moral equivalent. Quite frankly, these people who live in Canada and consume content from places like Memri TV can go live in these MENA countries where they’ll have a more receptive audience to their views.
