This is the kind of crap the western media feeds its people? With the US firing missiles into Russia, literally doing what everyone shat a brick over when Reagan joked about bombing Russia….
And this clown has the gall to say Russia is escalating the war? LOL
Since when did opinions started becoming news?
Watch this video and you will understand
https://youtu.be/gsmr4mNJ-gw?si=cKPM0GqZlm37DLVj
…the west quite literally is escalating the war.
Russia is the immoral aggressive party but there’s no obligation by western powers to get involved ( the Budapest memorandum is a sham of a document. It’s been widely reported)
Us western powers are escalating the war through Ukraine ( yes we are absolutely using Ukraine ) to damage a geopolitical rival. We will do this with the hopes of continuing to trade oil and gas with Russia at an exceedingly inexpensive rate while removing defense investment into our other geopolitical adversaries ( Iran China NK all have extensive defense ties with Russia )
But the escalation is (supposedly ) a calculated risk by western powers.
It has nothing to do with morals or ethics. Western Europe especially doesn’t get to claim the moral higher ground when it comes to foreign affairs . They funded Russia to begin with through LNG and oil purchases for decades.
Submission Statement?
I mean, Russia is “allowed” to escalate only because the west is refusing to. That’s the unfortunate game theory here. So long as the west is reluctant to get involved, Russia will try to get away with more and more.
Interesting list of suggestions – not sure I agree with all of them:
> using Russia’s stranded $300bn in reserves
I am a bit concerned about the precedent it sets, but I suppose it is an option
> tightening sanctions (especially against Russia’s shadow fleet transporting oil)
Yeah, I don’t even understand why we still allow those “shadow tankers” to operate.
> investing in European member states’ defence industries with the specific aim of supplying Ukraine
I think we are doing that already, but we should obviously do more of it
> removing any still-existing restrictions on weapons usage for the targeting of Russian troops, supplies, supply lines or infrastructure inside Russia
As far I know, it’s only the Americans who are preventing that, due to the British and French weapons using an American targeting system, and the Biden administration enforcing certain restrictions?
> destroying Russian missiles over Ukrainian territory as is done for Israel
Can we actually do this?
> deploying Nato troops in western and central Ukraine to assist with logistics, supplies and training to ease pressure on Ukraine’s own military
In principle a good idea, but there is probably quite a bit of resistance for this idea…
> and drawing up a membership plan for Nato accession for future security.
So, if Ukraine is left alone, they will likely pursue a nuclear program instead, and if they are successful, it has a real chance of triggering a nuclear war. As such, we should probably prevent this from happening, and one way of preventing that is them joining NATO.
However, a nuclear Ukraine might also be in our interest, as they would serve as lightning rod for Russian aggression, so that Russia is more likely to leave us alone… Now, of course that’s a rather unfair deal, but, well, it’s geopolitics we are talking about, so I guess it’s worth considering… except that it would also be risky, due to the aforementioned nuclear war.
