President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, responding to a question about the concessions Russia would need to make during potential negotiations, said Russia should “sod off”.

Source: Zelenskyy during a joint briefing with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reported by European Pravda, citing Ukrinform

Details: The head of state was asked what concessions Russia would need to make during possible peace talks.

He replied: “What should Russia do? Sod off. Ideally, it should understand the harm it is causing – killing us while we defend ourselves and fight the enemy.”

Quote: “For now, our plans remain unchanged. Of course, we hope to become stronger so that this war can end in 2025. Apologies for the undiplomatic phrasing.”

Zelenskyy also mentioned that the main topics of discussion with Chancellor Scholz were strengthening the front line, the future role of the European Union and an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO.

“Sod off” is not an accurate enough translation of what he said. He said that russia should “go on three letters” (implying the word “dick” or хуй in russian) – so basically he told russia to fuck off.

Edit: source – the same article but in Ukrainian 🙂

Wish he told putin to shove a rocket up his ass but sadly we need to be professional.

I like “sod off,” I think, as interpretation instead translation it is fine as would be bugger off. Conveys the meaning nicely without the f-bomb.

I think both are more genteel than what is said here in Silicon Valley: https://youtu.be/0oV4IVy8tvE?si=py14ovAQdxPm9iAA

My late mother from Nutley NJ would have told him to “Kiss my rosy red rectum in Macy’s window.”

I would have got with “fuck right off back to their broken down soviet slums where the young are sent to die in a pointless war and the corrupt steal from the people that are ruled over with a blood soaked iron first” but I guess you have to play politics sometimes.

  6. The beginning of the article describes the situation much better than the headline:

    >President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, responding to a question about the concessions Russia would need to make during potential negotiations, has said Russia should “eff off”.

He did not actually use the expletive, he said, “three letters.” The phrase “three letters” is a commonly used stand-in for a three-letter expletive that means dick.
