The Russian military and diplomats began to leave the Syrian capital, Damascus, in an abrupt manner, and the first armed clashes broke out there.

Details: According to Ukrainian intelligence, forces opposing the Russian-backed Assad administration are actively marching south of the country, with the first urban confrontations taking place in Hama, Homs and Suwayda.
It is known that the Russian contingent abandoned Hama and relocated to the Khmeimim Airbase. Colonel General Alexander Zhuravlev, chief of the Russian coordinating headquarters in Khmeimim, declared that the situation was out of the Assad regime’s control.
In addition, the Russians fled a military base in the city of Khan Shaykhun, leaving behind a huge inventory of weapons and equipment.

It’s really interesting that we’ll see even more domino effects like these. If there’s opportunity, your enemies shall sure take it. I believe in next decade will be lots small wars and conflicts around the world. I hope all the dictators around the world eventually will lose power. It’s a shame in 21th century, such anti humanist politic entities exist.

Looks like Russia’s position in Syria is really starting to shift. The fact that they’re pulling out military personnel and diplomats from Damascus shows just how unstable things are getting. Russia has been a key player in propping up Assad, so if they’re starting to retreat, what happens next for the regime? With opposition forces gaining ground, it’s clear that Russia might be rethinking its strategy.

Russia is crushed. And would be wholly crushed if the west would give Ukraine what they ask for. This is such a sign of weakness. Iran the same. Both can’t even win their main war and are thus wholly overextended in Syria.

People are missing the point here. Maybe Turkey backing the rebels is a double Putin ploy. He wants to destabilise Syria and create a refugee crisis for Europe. Destabilise the area even more and cause even more right wing rhetoric

I wouldn’t be so happy about this. Yes, fck Russia and everything related to it but the problem is that you all seem to forget who is going to be in charge of Syria when the dust settles.
Yihaddists.
When Irak was obliterated and the west left the region a little thing we now know as ISIS came to power and for a decade they not only gained power thoroughly but they coordinated every major terrorist attack in the west.
Saddam was a monster but what came after him was worst both for Iraqis and the west.
I am wondering how much time is going to take for Syria to bite the west in the a**.
We create our own monsters.

Each and every one of them paid significant bribes to _not_ be posted in Ukraine. Should ask for their money back.

Who cares about Syria? Russians and terrorists and bad actors all killing each other in a sandbox with not a single landmark of interest in the way. Sounds like a dream come true.
If they get too uppity and spill out of the sandbox, that’s why we keep Israel on retainer

I just hope the Russians abandon their naval base in Tartus so their influence in the Med decreases.
