Well yeah that’s kind of the plan. Where do they think Uber and Lyft want to go eventually?

    From the article:

    >To be sure, it’s unclear how much robotaxis such as Waymo One’s are currently impacting drivers’ earnings.

Waymos are awesome. No tip, cheap, quick, quiet and futuristic. The only downside is the limited coverage, but if I lived in a Waymo approved area, it’s all I would use.

Precisely. Creative destruction is what drives human progress.

Jobs with limited skill sets have ALWAYS been at risk of disappearing.

  5. Taxi drivers complain about Uber drivers. Uber drivers complain about autonomous vehicles. How long before the vehicles start complaining about humans? “This fuckin’ guy and his muddy shoes.. gtfo meatbag.”

  6. In 10 years: Waymo’s robotaxis driver agents say Telepresence Robot Avatars are hurting their earnings in Phoenix and LA.

  7. Do these drivers not realize they are a stop gap? Uber and Lyft have always just been waiting for the self-driving car “revolution” to remove a huge chunk of cost.

Do they say that as they ignore the angry stares of the cab drivers standing behind them?

  9. Soon they will be in basements as backup remote drives. So the upper-middle class will not have to see their faces.

I’m excited about the future *scarcasm

  10. That was the plan from day 1? Uber was pretty upfront about replacing drivers with autonomous back when Kalanic was CEO.

  11. Blacksmiths and farriers say Model-T sales are hurting their earnings.

  12. Skyrocket your prices that use to be competitive, yeah the market moves.
