>Hundreds of thousands of international graduate students could be facing deportation when their work permits expire over the next year.
>Speaking from a tent encampment in Brampton, Ontario, where she’s been protesting recent immigration policy changes, Ontario college graduate, Gurkirat Kaur, tells CTV News she doesn’t “want to live (in Canada) illegally.”
Man, have I got a solution for her.
>They’re also asking the federal government to hold true on the promise they say they were given when the decided to come to Canada — a clear, fair path towards receiving permanent residency.
Who promised them this? Find whatever civil servant was responsible and fire them.
These people aren’t facing deportation.
Being required to leave at the end of your agreed upon time in Canada is not a deportation. It’s a deportation (More specifically a 1 year exclusion) if they don’t leave as required when their permit expires.
They’re making it sound like Canada is some iron fisted tyrant rounding up people in camps once their permit expires…
How are these international students promised the Canadian dream if they also weren’t told ‘taps nose’ they could stay and get their PR/citizenship guaranteed?
I’ve been called woke on Reddit more times than I can count (Thank you by the way)
However – This is kind of black and white. People get visas to work or study for a limited period of time. They should be making preparations to leave at the end of their visa or seeking renewal, not trying to ride it out until someone tracks them down and asks them to leave.
This is a symptom of entitlement, and the trend of people just not obeying the laws they don’t want to obey. The rule-based world order is slowly whittling away because of this kind of thinking.
I have great sympathy for humans, but this issue is not just about immigration anymore. It’s a bigger issue that we’re not getting a handle on about fairness and rule of law.
