Social media apps like YouTube, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Reddit are filled with ads that interrupt the user experience.

On YouTube, ads appear before and during videos, often skippable after a few seconds. Instagram displays sponsored ads every few posts, including in the Reels section. X and Reddit also show ads after a few posts or tweets.

While these ads help keep the platforms free, they can be frustrating for users, as they frequently interrupt the content they are viewing. Ads have become an unavoidable part of social media today.

I mean, I feel as though this is real shockedpikachu.gif territory here. Of **course** they’re filled with ads. We typically pay nothing for them — which that means you’re paying with your metadata/demographics. So let’s stop for just an instant to consider **why** people are willing to pay for your metadata/demographics.

I’ll give you a hint: **it’s so they can advertise to you more effectively.**
