From Canada, I can understand that our diesel-electric trains don’t count, but that 0% ignores the electric passenger trains we have, as few as they are.

The map should really have a separate colour (grey?) for countries that have no railways.
0% of Libya’s non existent railways are electrified? Colour me surprised..

This seems like a better option, to electrify the nation’s rails rather than pushing private consumers to make the change and buy EV vehicles. Not saying both can’t happen, but Amtrak, being federally owned, could lead to way by updating their fleet.

The figure for the US would have been higher when the now-defunct Milwaukee Road had an electrified line running across the Rocky and Cascades mountains.

As large as the population (1.4bl) of India is and the land size it’s quite an achievement
All so called developed nations are lagging behind with all the budget and low population numbers

IG this a bit of old data, India currently has 95% electrified railways and the target is some 99%, some places which pass through some insanely crazy landscapes are very hard to electrify.

As a swiss person, I didn’t know that non-electric trains are still used.
That’s quite shocking.

This is Indian propaganda, look at the allocation of Kashmir, in this map even Azad Kashmir which is globally recognised by countries as being part of Pakistan is given to India.

Would be interesting to look at differences in urban vs rural areas and the use of heavy vs light rail trains.
>Only the Santiago Metro is a metro system in the strictest sense of the word, the others are commuter and intercity trains whose lines are also used for freight trains.
>The service between Chillan station and Santiago central station alone is almost 400 km long, I don’t know how much percentage that is of the total railways in the country, but it is certainly not 0% as the map claims.

This very same map was posted 2 times already by different users [5 months ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1dxl0nv/electrification_of_railways_around_the_world_of/) and [3 months ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1et71g0/electrification_of_railways_around_the_world_of/), respectively (the second one was deleted, but you can still read the discussion) and although I don’t know how accurate it is for the rest of the countries, in the particular case of Chile.
>Chile 0%
**It’s completely inaccurate.**
I’m going to copy and paste what I wrote in the 2 previous posts.
>Chile has hundreds of kilometers of electrified railroads and has been that way for many years.
