suggest the DOGE a determination if the best thing is to force U.S. citizens to pay state allocated monopolies a few extra trillion dollars to pay for it

Trump will continue Biden’s deregulation of American nuclear construction, but that still doesn’t actually build reactors. It also does not build a long-term nuclear waste storage site, which Trump killed in his final days in office four years ago. Congress will have to convene and find a solution on this, or else America will continue stagnating just in time for another major mideast war to shoot energy prices up. New Mexico’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant will probably become the New Mexico Waste Isolation *Destination Facility* as Trump can order it into a permanent nuclear waste dump without intervention by Congress or New Mexico. This runs afoul of Environmental Justice laws since New Mexico is a lot browner than Southern Nevada, but Democrats already dismantled that under Obama and Biden for the purposes of putting waste there “temporarily”. The next stage of this will be breaking up the monopoly surrounding GW boiler fabrication and heavy construction, most of which is now owned by Bechtel.

Aside to this: Trump does not need any legislative consent to restarting underground nuclear testing. Trump also does not need legislative consent to restart mass nuclear bomb production. Trump does not need legislative consent to nationalize existing power plants and build reactors there. Trump does not need legislative consent to order industry to collaborate together under the Defense Production Act as he did for oxygen machines and vaccines during covid.

Nuclear reactors take over a decade to plan and build. So, looks like it will be up president Lisa Simpson

    – US Conservatives as a political party are >50% in favor of nuclear power. (even higher than Liberals in fact)

    – His tech-bro handlers are massively in favor of nuclear power, ostensibly because it’s the only thing that can produce the sheer volume they need for their AI crap.

    – Trump himself has been asked repeatedly about nuclear power and has said that he believes nuclear energy has a vital role to play in making the US 100% energy independent.

So with all of this in mind, I fully expect the Trump will fight tooth/nail against nuclear energy, shut down the plants we already have, and instead demand trillions be poured into generating power from the changing of the tides off the coast of Texas/Florida.

Given that his and Putin’s mouth piece Tucker Carlson was talking about how nuclear energy is demonic, I’m gonna guess not.

I don’t see why Trump would want triple the nuclear energy generation. What a waste of money and effort .

I say he go balls deep on coal. Open up every shuttered coal plant in the country, and build new ones. That would go like nicely with horse and buggy inspired project 2025.

  7. Trump is more likely to do it if Biden announces he’s against it.

  8. This plans calls for deploying 200 GW of nuclear over the next 25 years.

Globally the human race deployed 1 TW (5x more generating capacity) of solar in 2024.

Solar deployment is on an accelerating curve.

With continually dripping prices for panels and battery storage, ongoing support of nuclear seems folly.

I say this as someone with no positive or negative feelings on nuclear technology. Just looking at the numbers and trends.

Upping nuclear while promising to gut all regulations and the government agencies that would at least try to prevent the power companies from cutting corners is how we get our very own Chernobyl.

Trump getting nuclear done would actually be a positive, so it probably won’t happen. Just like the 10% credit card rates he promised and probably won’t deliver on

Tripling is even pretty low end for what people want to do with AI.

Mindlessly shuts off the Keystone Pipeline without considering the economic Fallout to appease the climate change cheerleaders in his party. Now decides nuclear is the way to go? I’m sure he’ll get it done in the last 2 months of his administration instead of over the last 4 years.
