  1. AccidentalScumbag on

Can I also use the opportunity to complain that already now, straight passageways for pedestrians are deliberately broken up, with zebra and pelican crossings being offset from the logical ‘desire paths’ to where they would, in the leaded petrol addled brains of IM, not interfere with vehicular traffic? Instead, of course, they lead to people crossing the roads where possible.

    Exhibit A:

    – Zebra crossing at Msida police station, moved 30 meters up Rue d’Argens and reinforced with cattle fencing to prevent people from crossing.

    Exhibit B:

    – Zebra crossing near Msida Church. Moved about 70 meters from the junction with Falzon street to the middle of the block.

    Exhibit C:

    – Zebra crossing near Santa Venera Lidl. Instead of creating a straight path to the bus stop across the road, the zebra crossing is 50 meters further up the road, in the middle between Quarry street and Villambrosa.

    Exhibit D:

    – Qui-si-Sana in Sliema, where even the increasing desparate cattle fencing and parked cars are not enough to deter people from crossing straight from the promenade to Tower road, instead of taking a 100 meter detour to the middle of the block again.

It’s as if some zobb somewhere learned about cars having to yield to pedestrians who have started to cross the road and, after having huffed their own farts for long enough to give themselves brain damage, decided that slowing down cars will not be tolerated.

  2. And then they wonder why Maltese people are incredibly more obese when the built environment isn’t walkable outside of Valletta (where people actually live shop and work).

The small number of crossings in such a busy area is fucking pathetic.
