Bizarre behaviour from the police. I’ve never seen anything like that before, I hope they get train refunds. I’m from the traveller community and it makes you feel very threatened.

I’d like to know the full story here. Lots of young folk go shopping on the weekend, what’s so bad about this.

  2. Good work from GMP.

Thousands of shops and members of the general public spared from what was quite clearly an organised mass rally by a certain community.

Can you imagine the horror at the Christmas market if it was allowed to go ahead?

There were already, fights and assaults on emergency workers that day.

  3. This does highlight a double standard that’s common in Britain. If this happened with any other community it would be rightly decried as racist.

  4. Can’t even run around spitting off balconies anymore, makes you sick

They forgot their Palestine flags, would have been untouchable with those.

Just visited the markets and was stunned by the amount of travellers there. Never seen so many before and there’s a lot that live by me.

Didn’t see any of them making a fuss or living up to stereotypes to be honest, other than the gelled hair and 12 year olds’ caked in makeup. One of the kids ran down an upwards escalator in Selfridges but that was the most noteworthy thing.

To be honest I was quite impressed with the management of the markets – I didn’t see any antisocial behaviour at all. Slightly different to going to London for markets / hyde park.

  7. GMP wouldn’t do this if there wasn’t a good reason. My guess is the lovely teenagers were causing trouble, stealing and trying to start fights, and the locals and traders quite rightly didn’t put up with it so they called in the police. They probably had intel of an intention to meet up and cause larger scale trouble.

Don’t want your “community” to be stereotyped like that? Try cooperating with the authorities when members of the community commit crimes so you don’t all get tarred with the brush that they deserve.
