Trump’s top space advisers talk openly about funneling even more public money to Musk’s SpaceX

    Woow what a suprise.

  2. The smuggest man in the world just got a little smugger with his self serving mischief.

He’s like a greedy grandchild who’s granny has just died and they’re cutting the tape on the back of all their pictures just in case there’s something of worth in there.

  3. LookOverall on

NASA is doing a lot of the science on climate change which the Trump cult needs to pretend doesn’t exist.

  4. BadgeOfDishonour on

Good luck. Trump is going to take everything that isn’t nailed down and sell it for a pittance. Everything must go.

  5. LeadingRaspberry4411 on

    They already did

Every cent that goes to Space X ought to go to NASA. Musk is a parasite

  6. Most of NASA will be transferred to SpaceX. This is one of the reasons Musk was so on board with Trump even though he would be bad for Tesla.

  7. There’s a much bigger point here – it’s not just the impact to federal workers, it’s really that our tax money gets routed directly to a Musk owned company. Depending on how you look at it this is either state sponsored corporations (basically republicans quite literally becoming communists), or from the other side, it’s the definition of an kleptocracy where we are being taxed to pay Musk. Both are incompatible with democracy.

It was so horrific to hear Trump talk about Space X helping NASA. The US government is helping Space X by giving it government contracts to benefit from NASA research and knowledge. It’s corruption.

  9. ReaderBeeRottweiler on

I am far more worried about Trump and Musk either disbanding the Fed or at least taking control of our monetary policy. It hasn’t been in the hands of politicians since the Fed was created in 1913.

  10. citizenjones on

NASA keeps track of a lot of climate related activities too, don’t they?

  11. Sigh. Is this where Musk starts changing the names of planets to ‘X’

  12. Azure_phantom on

Guess the voters should have thought of that before November 5 🤷‍♀️

  13. DevelopmentSelect646 on

Musk definitely has a conflict of interests here. A normal president would make him divest of Tesla and SpaceX if he wants to serve in government, but of course Trump won’t.

  14. tovarish22 on

In the big scheme of things we need to stop them from gutting, NASA is unfortunately pretty low on my list. I’m way more worried about things with immediate consequences like health care, infectious diseases preparedness and research, social safety net programs, education funding, etc

  15. penguinoid on

In terms of the cost of rockets and the cost of payload to orbit, NASA is wayyyyyy behind SpaceX. ending the billions we spend on NASA rockets is pretty much the only thing I agree with.

But the absolute last person on earth to make that decision is mr conflict of interest over here.

Also, if we’re going to subsidize SpaceX with taxpayer money, taxpayers should have an equivalent stake in SpaceX ownership. The whole socialized risk, privatized benefits dynamic needs to end immediately. unfortunately, the trump administration is on the other side of that sentiment. the oligarchy is the point.

Musk makes most of his money from NASA…

Whats going to be funny is Musk and how many gov’t type contracts he makes money off from all his enterprises v all the other cons that think those should all be gutted.

I wonder who is going to win.

Also RFK Jr used to prosecute various companies for pollution, and has stated. “We all know clean coal is a lie.”

Now who back in 2016 talked about creating more coal jobs? (Obviously didn’t do it.)

So now you have RFK Jr who is against big institutions that don’t want regulation to be allowed to do whatever the fuck either with their products or pollute because of their products… V the guy that wants them regulated?

These at odds lickspittles are going to be interesting.

  17. PeaTasty9184 on

“Let”? I voted against this. A bunch of stupid people voted for them to gut NASA and everything else good about America. They’ e already been given the keys to hug NASA, the “don’t let” portion is over.

  18. why in the ever loving fuck would Musk gut NASA? That’s how he gets a huge chunk of his funding. If anything, we would expect NASA to get a funding boost. Find those silver linings wherever you can get them.

  19. Unfortunately the one thing I’m not worried about is the future of spaceflight under this administration (as opposed to Earth science, continuity of the Republic, the future of life on Earth). Sure, they’re probably going to cut SLS, but that was always going to happen. SLS has been under investigation by OMB for years for rampant cost overruns (that NASA tried to hide), to point where if it were a defense project, the Nunn–McCurdy Amendment would have probably automatically cancelled it by now. Oh, and the $500 billion per flight that was promised is now $2 Billion a flight.

Even if Harris was elected with Kelly as VP, the SLS program would have been cancelled no matter what, especially with Starship making good progress toward becoming a human-rated system.

I figure we’ll maybe get 2 or 3 more flights out of SLS, that puts us to Artemis 3 or 4 near the end of the decade, by which time Starship HLS will have been used for at least 2 missions to Lunar surface, and an Earth-Atmosphere rated vehicle will have a year or two of flights under its belt. And in the long tradition of spaceflight being tainted by its association with corrupt/far right governments Trump will get to be the one to ring in the return of humans to the moon… did we just curse our industry when we paperclipped all the guys from Peenemünde?

  20. MindandCosmos on

Just read an opinion piece in The Hill that asserts liberals are ruining our chance of beating China in getting a man on the moon.

This was, no shit, an argument about why we should support Musk, along with the rote ‘liberals are quashing free speech by criticizing X’ line they always puke out.

Between you and me, I’d rather be on the moon myself at this point.

  21. merithynos on

Yes, NASA is what I’m worried about when they’re planning on sending the military into cities.

Don’t get me wrong, NASA is awesome, but we’re facing an existential threat to the country and many of the people in it.

  22. ProbablySlacking on

What’s really frustrating is we had 4 years to which _anything_ could have been done to add some guard rails, and we didn’t.

  23. _cryisfree_ on

So Musk cripples NASA to get more money to be funnelled into his own company SpaceX. Meanwhile no Republican thinks this is blatant corruption.

  24. FuzzyMcBitty on

Our biggest opportunity to stop that was last when we voted.

That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t fight like hell, but elections have consequences.

  25. PlasticPomPoms on

Frankly, they would most likely do the opposite and super charge Space Exploration. The only positive with Republicans is they maintain or push our advancement in Space Exploration whereas Democrats most recently dismantled the Constellation program or had NASA emphasize climate science. We already know the Earth is fucked, let’s start getting some people off of it so it can actually repair itself.

  26. Malfeitor1 on

“Don’t let..”? Who is that directed to?? As if we/anyone could stop it

  27. Don’t really have a say in that anymore. 🤷‍♂️ thank the people who voted for him or didn’t vote for whatever happens during his presidency.

  28. timetogetoutside100 on

truly sad, and disturbing.. it’s like a surrealistic nightmare,

  29. Gut it? Naw, he’ll dang near sell it out to Ol’ Lemon Husk though. You can expect that as long as Lemon Husk remains in Trump’s orbit and his good graces that he’ll get 100% of NASA contracts at INCREDIBLY good rates. Why gut it when you can profit from it?

  30. Familymanjoe on

Socialize investment and privatize profits. We get to lose twice.

  31. PhotonArmy on

If people wanted competency and fewer criminals in government stealing their money… they would have voted for that.

    Elections have consequences.

  32. OldmanLister on

Republicans killed nasa with the Reagan tax cuts.

Not entirely but all that loss revenue led to the gutting of one of our most prestigious institutions.

I’m surprised it’s still breathing tbh.

  33. sugarlessdeathbear on

Fund the hell out of NASA if for no other reason than what awesome things they may come up with that become commonplace.

  34. DontOvercookPasta on

Literally arguing with a space x stan in another comment section. Saying nasa is a waste and space x is “true innovation” while yes nasa is hogtied with political red tape. We shouldn’t be just pouring money into a private for profit company. It’s blatantly obvious that they are robbing the american public and will sell the services they create using tax dollars back to the taxpayers for a profit. Thats not what government money should be for.

  35. SavvyTraveler10 on

For every $1 NASA spends, Americans receive $3 in economical and research value
