  1. I’ve seen similar lists the past few years and it’s remained fairly similar. Usually it’s things like Teslas, then a mix of the most common cars and also legacy brands more likely to belong to older and richer people that drive worse, then down toward rarer cars.

  2. Any_Background_14 on

You mean the company with bad build quality, lackadaisical quality control, and a fetish for pushing beta versions of self-driving out to customers who, given that they are buying EVs that are demonstrably worse than the offerings from legacy automakers for the brand name on them, may possibly have poor judgement?

Noooo. It’s too far-fetched. Unbelievable, even.

  3. From the article:

“Elon Musk has sought to portray Tesla’s vehicles as the “safest cars on the road.” However, a new analysis of federal data purports to show that Musk’s company actually has the highest rate of involvement with fatal accidents of any car brand.

The analysis, which was put together by automotive search engine iSeeCars, cites fatality statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) to claim that Tesla has “the highest fatal accident rate by brand, followed by Kia, Buick, Dodge, and Hyundai.”

The report further notes: “As with the model rankings, it’s possible these high fatal accident rates reflect driver behavior as much or more than vehicle design.” In other words, Teslas may not have any particular features that make them more dangerous. It may be that drivers of Teslas are just more prone to crashing or being involved in crashes.

“The biggest contributor to occupant safety is avoiding a crash, and the biggest factor in crash avoidance is driver behavior,” said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst. “A focused, alert driver, traveling at a legal or prudent speed, without being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, is the most likely to arrive safely regardless of the vehicle they’re driving.”“

  4. Who would have thought that straight up lying that the car can drive itself could increase the number of crashes their cars have

  5. ChicChampionessPixie on

That’s concerning but I wonder if it’s more about the number of Teslas on the road or something else at play

  6. Scared_of_zombies on

They are driven more aggressively than anything else I see on the road, even BMW and Mercedes.

  7. swollennode on

Come next year, Tesla will magically be the safest cars in the road.

  8. sharedthrowaway102 on

They need to be investigated for possible regulatory misconduct cause this isn’t a coincidence anymore. A friend returned theirs after having it for a week and the screen that displays speed blanked out on the highway. Didn’t come back on for 24 hours. When it did it would show they’re driving 100 mph when they were only doing 25 mph. These cars are not safe.

  9. FreezingRobot on

I’ve seen a steady stream of “Why do the other car companies do it that way, let’s do it this way instead” things in these cars that make me not want to buy one. There’s a reason all the car companies do certain things the same way. This isn’t a piece of software where you can “move fast and break things”, it’s something where people can literally get killed.

  10. Tesla ownership is concentrated in a place that has notoriously terrible/insane drivers—California. An state by state or regional comparison would be more informative.

  11. unfiltered_oldman on

Not surprising. Teslas are fast and heavy and have the most half ass self driving implementation and the most blowhard liar in Elon about their capabilities.

I love my model S but I’m lead footed with it, cause it’s fun. I never use the fsd or even AP anymore because they are total garbage.

So I can see how less vigilant drivers could kill more people with a heavy fast car. Sounds like Tesla are also the best at protecting the occupants. So you really just have a super effective murder machine at your hands. Everybody should buy one.. /S

  12. redditorannonimus on

That treason. You cannot say that about Lord muskrat’s company

  13. mikechi2501 on

    >As with the model rankings, it’s possible these high fatal accident rates reflect driver behavior as much or more than vehicle design.

Automated driving means less attention paid by the driver.

  14. Significant-Mango300 on

A concept of safety is very different that true outcomes.

  15. “The report further notes: “As with the model rankings, it’s possible these high fatal accident rates reflect driver behavior as much or more than vehicle design.” In other words, Teslas may not have any particular features that make them more dangerous. So Tesla drivers are duesche bags, and hence drive like that too.

    Edit: fixing typo

  16. Nopantsbullmoose on

Every person I’ve known that has an Tesla is also an idiot, so this doesn’t surprise me.

  17. By 0.1 deaths per billion miles as compared to the next vehicle manufacturer. This is a non article.

  18. Jacked-to-the-wits on

There’s a pretty big question that this article doesn’t mention. Who’d dying? Is it the people in the Teslas or the people being hit by Teslas? If Tesla is out there saying that they have the safest cars on the road, but those cars just happen to be much much heavier than ICE cars, it stands to reason that Tesla could be honest and lots of other people could still be dying.

Physics is a hell of a thing, and mass counts for a lot when it comes to how well each party in an accident fares. Hummers were pretty safe as well, but it didn’t have anything to do with their airbags, and it’s only for the people inside them.

Another bot account reposting stories that are already on the front page?

  20. franky3987 on

I’d blame the drivers before I blame Tesla. The joke is, Teslas are just rich Nissan drivers 😂 I swear, almost everyone I encounter drives like they just got their permit

  21. This data will likely stop getting collected in a few months once the NHTSA gets on the DOGE list

  22. RichtofensDuckButter on

Oh my God will people just shut the fuck up about Tesla like who gives a shit?

  23. kaleosaurusrex on

This study has been debunked thoroughly in other threads. Elon still a shithead.

  24. Cute-Rate8655 on

Musk has blood on his hands for lying and hiding how unsafe his “self driving” cars are. Many people have died to help bump up Tesla’s stock price.

  25. In the month I’ve Been riding my motorcycle I almost got hit by 4 teslas merging into a lane without looking

  26. auburnradish on

Most car brands use automation as a failsafe for the driver. Teslas have it the other way around. The results are sadly predictable.

  27. NlightenedSelfIntrst on

Not to worry. Musk will just DOGE NHTSA and the problem goes away. Can’t be a problem if you don’t measure for it. Have we all forgotten so quickly?

  28. Maybe they should just drop their whole autopilot thing and just focus on FSD (supervised) because it’s cause way too much shit.

  29. belizeanheat on

It used to be you’d see a Prius, and that automatically meant “shitty driver”

Now it’s Teslas and the percentage of Teslas I see that are godawful drivers is unprecedented for me over the last 30 years of driving

  30. Based on my anecdotal but still extensive experience in my area, white Teslas are by far the most dangerous cars on the road. I find they’re driven too far, take very risky late yellow lights, and don’t respect pedestrians in a cross walk.

  31. Why is this being upvoted AGAIN after the last one was removed?

It’s the same stupid study. Mods, do your jobs better or let someone else help.

  32. KnotSoSalty on

The giant screen that you have to stare at to adjust the AC fan speed can’t be good for keeping your eyes on the road.

  33. belizeanheat on

Self driving cars just aren’t quite there yet, and people relying on that are crashing.

Tesla drivers are also, in general, the worst drivers on the road in my experience.

It’s also a very attractive brand for idiots, who in general are worse drivers than non-idiots

  34. Iowegian21 on

the vehicles are safer (for the driver) but Tesla drivers are the worst drivers apparently.

  35. If Elon wasn’t active politically Reddit wouldn’t be making these post lmao
